Consultancy in Neurosurgery combined with a clinical professorship in Neurosurgery
A permanent position as consultant at the Department of Neurosurgery at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Neurosurgery, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation
The department of neurosurgery has a leadership consistent of the Chairman of neurosurgery and the head-nurse of the department. The clinical professor has privileged advisory capacity to the leadership. The department of neurosurgery undertakes approximately 3.600 neurosurgical procedures per year, not including endovascular procedures or stereotactic radiosurgery. The outpatient clinic has approximately 7.000 visits per year. There are 34 regular neurosurgical beds, 10 semiintensive care beds. There is a common neurointensive care unit with 20 beds. The department has 17 neurosurgical specialist and 14 non-specialist physicians.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The department of Neurosurgery at Rigshopitalet has a highly specialized and selective clinical and research focus on brain surgery. The department strives for clinical excellence in all areas by focusing on subspecialization in clinical teams. Each of the departments 14 clinical teams has a neurosurgical specialist as team-leader who is responsible for the clinical excellence of the team. The 14 teams are: Acute Neurosurgery, CSF Disorders, Deep Brain Stimulation, Epilepsy surgery, Mapping, Neurointensive care and Traumatology, Oncological Neurosurgery, Pain & Spasticity, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Peripheral Nerve Surgery, Pituitary surgery, Skullbase surgery, Trigeminal neuralgia & Hemifacial spasms, Vascular Neurosurgery.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant at Neuroscience Centre Rigshospitalet and clinical professor of the Department of Neurosurgery wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The Clinical professor must have high clinical competences within one or more of the specialized team functions, as for example Vascular Neurosurgery, one or more of the functional neurosurgical teams, CSF disorders or Oncological Neurosurgery.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Neurosurgery and possess particular skills within brain surgery.
Conditions:
Only applicants for the position as clinical professor of Neurosurgery at University of Copenhagen can apply for this position. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant applies for and obtains both positions.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Chairman of Neurosurgery. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Neurosurgery. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Chairman of the department of Neurosurgery, Rigshospitalet.
