A Senior Researcher position combined with a Clinical Professorship in Cardiology with special focus on Research in Clinical Nursing (Fixed-Term, 5 years)
A clinical position as senior researcher in cardiology with special focus on
research in clinical nursing at the Heart Centre at Rigshospitalet is open for
appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as
Clinical Professor in Cardiology with special focus on research in clinical
nursing at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of
Copenhagen.
With this new position, the Heart Centre, Rigshospitalet, wishes to
strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration
with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both
the professorship and the position as senior researcher.
About the Heart Centre
The Heart Centre at Rigshospitalet offers clinical and advanced residency
programs for cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, vascular medicine, anaesthesia
and research with a large number and complexity of patients. The complex, specialized
care includes: Open heart surgery (bypass procedures and valve surgery),
surgery for congenital heart disease, heart and lung transplants, surgery for
atrial fibrillation, diagnostic and interventional catheterisation procedures,
echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic and
interventional electrophysiology procedures (ablations), permanent pacemaker
insertions (including implantable cardiac defibrillators and biventricular
pacemakers), stress tests and ECGs. These numerous procedures used to treat different
types of heart disease distinguish the Heart Centre from other institutions in
Denmark.
The Heart Centre is organized with three departments: Department of
Cardiology, Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, and Department of
Cardiothoracic Surgery. The Centre has 1,100 skilled and dedicated employees
including seven professors, a high level of patient contentment, and manages a
very large portfolio of training of all groups of professionals. The Centre is
dedicated towards optimizing patient treatment by bridging basic research,
clinical research, and translational research and implementation of the results
into clinical practice. Employees of the Heart Centre are characterized by a
strong focus on creating environments for research and development both on a
health professional as well as on an organizational level. The Heart Centre is
involved in several strategic efforts and has been chosen as a development
center for Value-Based Health Care for the Capital Region of Denmark.

The professor/senior researcher is expected to be research leader, develop the
area of research, be a supervisor and educator for younger researchers and be
involved in university education of students.
The professor/senior researcher will perform research in clinical cardiac
nursing with focus on the consequences of heart disease in a patient, -health
and societal perspective as well as improving health outcomes and experience of
health.
Special focus will be on the field “psycho-cardiology” – the connection
between heart and mind: to gain insight into the mechanisms that cause
increased mortality among heart patients with anxiety; to conduct studies into
the risk factors and health outcomes for cardiac patents and to investigate the
extent of children living at home where a parent suffer from heart disease and
the impact on these children with a view to establish relevant supportive
initiatives.
It is expected that the professor/senior researcher is recognised nationally
and internationally and works towards establishing more national collaboration
in Danish clinical cardiac nursing. The professor/senior researcher will
function as mentor and supervisor for nurses in regards to education –and
research activities. The professor/senior researcher is expected to participate
in and lead the clinical work in specific areas.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board certified and registered as a nurse and possess
academic qualifications corresponding to the senior researcher/associate
professor-level. Further, applicants must be able to demonstrate a scientific
production within the professorship subject area as well as document experience
in research supervision and teaching activities.
Emphasis will be on research activity, the quality of the conducted
research as well as documentation for research management of large scale
projects.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both
the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the senior researcher
position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship.
Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both
positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed at Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions of employment as Senior Researcher are as agreed
between the Danish Regions and relevant labour organisation (Dansk
Sygeplejeråd) and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of
Copenhagen.
As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated
to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication
with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of
Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be
allocated for clinical work, research and research-related activities in
agreement with the head of the Heart Centre, Rigshospitalet. The clinical
professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a
full time secretary position from The Heart Centre. Additional support and
details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the management of the
Heart Centre.
