PhD student position in cranial pain mechanisms
Department of Clinical Experimental Research, Glostrup Research Institute,
Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Denmark
We are looking for outstanding and highly motivated candidates with
background in neurobiology, pharmacology and scientific methodology.
We employ a wide range of different biochemical methods and animal models to
address our scientific questions. The primary responsibility includes
conducting research with a clear translational focus. The development of
different methods to achieve results of high quality and of different character
is desirable.
Project
title: Detection and function of neuropeptides in
the trigeminal ganglion and mechanisms involved in controlling messenger
molecule release.
Background: This PhD is designed to develop the
understanding of cranial pain mechanisms such as those associated or involving
clinical conditions such as migraine and trigeminal neuralgia. The work will
center around the trigeminal system – the trigeminal neurons and glial cells,
its central and peripheral ramifications, and the neuronal messenger molecules
associated cells.
Main
aim and Importance: To
develop methods to evaluate neuropeptides and their receptors function in
different parts of the trigeminovascular system. The work will have importance
in understanding cranial pain conditions.
Qualifications: The PhD work will involve several basic
laboratory methods: It will be of considerable value that the candidate show
evidence of knowledge in immunohistochemistry (a key method) as well as of
organ culture and myography of vascular smooth muscle. It is important that the
candidate shows genuine interest and willingness to learn, both the theoretical
side as well as the practical part of our laboratory environment. Good collaborative ability is appreciated.
The candidate should be familiar with
basic experiments and having approved
certificate to handle laboratory animals is an advantage. It would be an additional advantage
if the candidate has experience with handling rodents and dissecting tissues.
The position is a 3 year position. The starting date will be after
agreement.
Application: The CV including a publication list, copy of
latest degree certificate, a description of previous research and other
activities of relevance for the position, including documents showing expierence in animal experiments
and a brief description of current research interest should be
submitted (total maximum of one page). Names and addresses of at least two
people able to provide references for the candidate should also be provided.
