Post doc position in translational diabetes research
At Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) we are
seeking a post doc to join our research group, Type 1 Diabetes Biology (headed
by Flemming Pociot). SDCC is part of the Capital Region of Denmark (RegionH)
and is a leading research institute and specialized diabetes care hospital. The
post doc will be part of the Immuno Diabetology team headed by Joachim
Størling.
About the
project
To support our pipeline of clinical and translational
research activities, we wish to apply a new methodology to measure energy
metabolism in living cells using the “Seahorse” technology. The post doc we are
seeking will undertake the task of establishing the technique in our laboratory
and applying it on research projects at SDCC.
There are two overall aims of the project: i) to
perform metabolic measurements of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMSc)
isolated from patients with diabetes who participate in clinical trials at SDCC.
Information about the metabolic activity in PBMCs may provide mechanistic
insight into therapeutic treatments and may serve as a potential “biomarker” of
treatment efficacy. Applying the Seahorse technology in a patient-near context
at SDCC allows for fresh PBMC preparation and analyses on site; ii) to perform
metabolic measurements on isolated pancreatic islets and beta cells exposed to
different diabetes-relevant compounds to address if these alter their energy
metabolism.
What we
offer
We offer an exciting multidisciplinary research
environment with top-class laboratory and office facilities. A friendly and
sociable atmosphere and intercross collaborations and research disciplines are
characteristics of SDCC. We have large networks of national and international
relations offering great possibilities for synergies with groups outside the house.
Terms
The
post doc candidate will be offered a full-time position for a period of two
years. Employment will be in accordance with the relevant collective agreement
within the Capital Region of Denmark.
Qualifications
The candidate must have completed her/his PhD.
The candidate will preferably have an interest and skills in cell biology and
diabetes research. Candidates with past experience in the Seahorse
technology especially in the combination with PBMCs and/or islets are
particularly qualified. Creativity,
independent thinking, good communication skills, and the ability to work in a
team are all important qualities. The successful candidate will be responsible
for the daily management of his/her research project(s) in coordination with the
team leader and other members of the group.
Application & further information
Submit your application including your CV, documentation of diplomas (Master
degree, PhD degree), names and contact information of 1-2 references no later than May 15, 2018. The position is available now. For further information please contact team leader and senior researcher Joachim Størling at +45 30 91
