Senior researcher position combined with a clinical professorship in Surgery with special focus on Nursing and Clinical Health Promotion
A
clinical position as senior researcher of Nursing at the Abdominal Centre at Rigshospitalet,
University of Copenhagen, is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The
position is combined with
a 5-year externally funded position as clinical
professor of Surgery with special focus on Nursing and Clinical Health
Promotion at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of
Copenhagen.
With
this new position the Abdominal Centre at Rigshospitalet, University of
Copenhagen wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching
in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It
is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the
professorship and the clinical position. The advertisement for the

The
Clinical position is with reference to The Heads of the Department of
Anaesthesia.
The research area is clinical nursing within the
Centre’s specialties to strengthen research at the centre overall.
About the Abdominal
Centre
The Abdominal Center provides a broad range of services in anesthesiology,
endocrinology, medical and surgical gastroenterology, hepatology, intensive
care, nephrology, urology, transplant and vascular surgery.
The centre has 1.400 skilled and
dedicated employees, including 16 professors.
The Abdominal Centre
merge with another center at Rigshospitalet from January 2019 to The Centre for
Cancer and Organ Diseases providing oncology services too.
Department of Anaesthesiology provides anaesthesia and surgical assistance as well as post-operative care for
patients undergoing major vascular surgery, major gastrointestinal and
urological surgery. The Post-Operative Care Unit (PACU) is the largest
recovery unit at Rigshospitalet and delivers post anaesthesia recovery service
to adults and children from 13 surgical specialties throughout the
Rigshospital.
Department of Urology is responsible for highly specialised
treatment of all types of cancer of the urinary tract, including medical
treatment of prostate cancer. Urological diseases include diseases in the adrenal glands,
kidneys, urinary tracts and male genital organs.
Department of Vascular surgery includes treatment of pathological
disorders of arteries and veins. Arterial disease is largely
obstructive/thrombotic due to atherosclerosis or aneurysm. Rarer conditions
include arterial trauma, vasospastic and others. Atherosclerotic disease
causes conditions that warrant treatment in lower limbs (peripheral arterial
disease), brain (carotid disease), arms, gut and kidneys.
Department
of Surgical Gastroenterology is responsible for highly specialized treatment of cancer
in cardia/distally in the esophagus and stomach, late complications of stomach
surgery, pancreatic and periampullar cancer, endocrine gastrointestinal tumors,
surgical liver diseases and reconstructive biliary tract surgery, short bowel
syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases, reservoir operations (ileo-anal
reservoir), intestinal radiation injury, ischemic bowel diseases and anal
cancer. In addition to this, the department performs multiorgan removal
and liver transplants. The Department includes endoscopy and experimental
surgery as well.
Department
of Nephrology treats all aspects of acute and chronic kidney
diseases and kidney failure in children and adults, is working to prevent renal
diseases and performing all aspects of dialysis. The department is largely
involved in kidney transplants in children and adults.
Department
of Endocrinology has a highly specialised
function in the specialist area endocrinology, diabetes, thyroidea diseases, primary
hyperparathyreoidism. The Department receives
patients with severe, rare or unresolved endocrinological diseases.
Department
of Hepatology treats patients with acute and
chronic liver diseases. The department specialises in medical liver diseases
and evaluates patients for liver transplantation. The department merge with Department of Gastroenterology from January 2019.
Department of Gastroenterology provides care
for patients with gastrointestinal disease requiring medical
treatment. The main area of focus is intestinal failure, home parenteral
nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease. The department is a referral centre,
taking in patients from the eastern regions of Denmark.
Department
of Intensive Care is a tertiary and
multidisciplinary department treating both children and adults. The department
receive patients for postoperative care after complex surgical procedures such
as solid organ transplantation and reconstructive cancer surgery. The
patients are present with a broad spectrum of challenging medical conditions,
including trauma, infectious diseases, burns, hematological disorders
(including bone marrow transplants), vascular surgery and patients requiring
hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Research and
teaching
With the new position as senior researcher
in Nursing and clinical professor of Surgery with special focus on Nursing and
Clinical Health Promotion, the Abdominal
Centre/Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical
research and teaching. Strategically,
the position will seek to boost interest in preventive interventions among
health care students and among health professionals in secondary and tertiary
care and form the basis for an active research-, development- and education
environment focused on clinical health promotion. Moreover, the aim is to gain
knowledge of the value of clinical health promotion, clinically and from the
perspective of patients, and to contribute scientifically to the field, nationally
and internationally.
The professor/senior researcher will engage in:
- Research
- Research based education with accompanying obligations
- Publication and communication
The professor/senior researcher is expected to be research leader, develop
the area of research, be a supervisor and educator for younger researchers and
be involved in university education of students.
The professor/senior researcher will perform research in nursing and
clinical health promotion with focus on evaluation of health promoting
initiatives in care pathways in a patient, -health and societal perspective. The
focus will be on the motivational impact of critical illness on lifestyle
change, adherence to complex treatment regimes, and development of feasible, evidence-based
health promoting interventions.
It is expected that the professor/senior researcher is recognized, nationally
and internationally, and works towards establishing more national collaboration
within the field of clinical health promotion, scientifically and clinically. The
professor/senior researcher will function as mentor and supervisor for nurses and
other allied health professionals regarding education and research activities.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board certified and registered as a nurse and possess
academic qualifications corresponding to the senior researcher/associate
professor-level. Further, applicants must be able to demonstrate scientific
production within the professorship subject area as well as document experience
in research supervision and teaching activities.
Emphasis will be on research activity, the quality of the conducted
research as well as documentation for supervision and teaching and research
management.
The following professional qualities will be evaluated:
- Experience from peri-operative care pathways and clinical health promotion
- Scientific production
- Research and development within the area of research
- Experience with research leadership as PhD supervisor
- Teaching experience
- National and international collaboration
Conditions: To be considered,
the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship)
and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised
position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the
applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are
already employed as senior researchers at Rigshospitalet.
Salary
and conditions of employment as senior researcher are as agreed between the
Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between
the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As
clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to
academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication
with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine
at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for
clinical work in agreement with the nursing vice director at the Abdominal
Centre/Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases and the heads of The Department of
Anaesthesiology.
