Consultancy in Emergency Medicine combined with a clinical professorship in Emergency Medicine
A clinical position as consultant of Emergency medicine at the Emergency
Department at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is open for appointment from as soon
as possible.
The position is combined with with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Emergency Medicine at the Faculty
of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Emergency Department, Herlev and Gentofte
Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching
in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment
of both the professorship and the consultancy.
Emergency Medicine is a new medical speciality in Denmark and we
wish that applicants have a strong commitment to this new speciality in order
to give academic and clinical development in the field. Therefore, applicants
must be board certified in the speciality Emergency Medicine or have intensions
to achieve this board certification within at reasonable time frame.
The professorship is funded by a grant from TrygFonden.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation
The Emergency Department offers initial triage, assessment,
diagnostics and treatment to patients admitted to all clinical specialties
within the hospital including Orthopaedic Surgery, Cardiology, Urology,
Gastroenterology including surgery, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Pulmonology,
Infections diseases, Neurology, Oncology, Nephrology and Haematology.
Medical management within the Emergency department is handled by the
medical specialities throughout the entire stay.
The Emergency department provides a learning environment for medical
students, junior doctors and resident in all specialties including Emergency
medicine.
Clinical functions and
focus areas of the department
The Emergency Department works systematically to optimize patient
treatment through education, research and optimizing patient pathways and flow
by ensuring interdisciplinary involvement from both clinical and diagnostic
departments.
The consultant will take part in clinical care and is
expected to provide clinical expertise within at least one board-certified
specialty, preferably two, one being Emergency Medicine.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in the Emergency Department and
clinical professor of Emergency Medicine the Department wishes to strengthen
leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in one of the
following specialities:
- Anaesthesiology
- Emergency Medicine
- Internal Medicine: Cardiology
- Internal Medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology
- Internal Medicine: Infectious Diseases
- Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Surgery
Conditions: In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application
to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy)
cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is
conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also
applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Herlev and
Gentofte Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed
between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists
and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be
allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and
communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of
Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining
time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the
Emergency Department. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical
support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Emergency
Department. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be
negotiated with the head of the Emergency Department, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.
