A
clinical position as consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Department of Emergency
Medicine at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital is open for appointment as
soon as possible.
The
position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical
professor of Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences,
University of Copenhagen.
With
this new position the Department of Emergency Medicine, Bispebjerg and
Frederiksberg Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research
and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It
is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the
professorship and the consultancy.
Emergency
Medicine is a new medical speciality in Denmark and we expect the applicants can
provide a strong commitment to this new speciality in order to enhance as well
academic as clinical development in the field. Therefore, applicants must be either
board certified in the speciality Emergency Medicine or show intentions to
achieve this board certification within a reasonable time frame.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation
The
catchment area of Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital is approximately 450,000
persons - the second largest in Denmark, covering the inner city, Østerbro,
Nørrebro and Nordvest. Patients in need of acute hospitalizations are presently
admitted to either Bispebjerg or Frederiksberg Hospital. A multidisciplinary
emergency unit with modern imaging, laboratory and treatment facilities is presently
under planning and construction and is expected to be opened in 2023. The
facility will provide one point of entry for all acutely ill patients and condensate
acute care in designated areas across specialties. Following the opening, the
hospital will also be able to provide gynaecologic, obstetric and paediatric
services for the population.
The
Emergency Department is presently divided in three sections. The Emergency
Department of Bispebjerg Hospital, open 24/7, where approx. 81,500 patients are
admitted annually, and the Acute Medical Center with 40 beds where 10,000 patients
with acute medical diseases are hospitalized for up to 48 hours. Almost 30,000
patients with minor injuries and general medical diseases are annually admitted
to the Acute Clinic of Frederiksberg, opening hours 09:00-21:00.
Clinical
functions and focus areas of the department
The
Emergency Department collaborates with several other clinical specialities
(internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, surgery, orthopaedics, geriatrics,
anaesthesiology) which in combination with assistance from laboratory and
imaging specialties 24/7/365 ensures that acutely admitted patients are treated
professionally and at a high level of quality.
The medical
staff at the Emergency Department presently employs seven experienced senior
consultants, and four younger doctors employed in emergency medicine educational
programs. The educational program will expand over the next years to a total of
6-8 positions. Furthermore, the budget for the coming years is aiming at an
expansion in senior consultancy to a total of 15 positions.
As the
speciality of emergency medicine is set to develop and expand further in the
coming decade, this field is of primary interest and focus at the
organizational hospital level. Thus, the department is expected to participate
in and hold key positions in the development of a joined, mutual,
across-hospital acute care programme. A program that hopefully will develop and
improve all aspects of acute care at the hospital.
