PhD student, Infectious Diseases
Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections (CHIP), Rigshospitalet
We are looking for a full‐time PhD
student for projects at CHIP, Department of Infectious Diseases at
Rigshospitalet (https://chip.dk/).
CHIP is an integral part of the Department of Infectious Diseases at
Rigshospitalet. CHIP was founded in 1998 to plan and execute clinical research
of excellence on therapies for infectious diseases in general and for HIV in
particular. CHIP has an extensive international collaboration with a track of
cutting edge clinical research, both cohort and controlled trials.
CHIP
is the appointed coordinating centre of the newly formed International Cohort
Consortium of Infectious Disease (RESPOND) which has been formed with the
guiding principle to allow for continued outstanding research collaboration
between HIV cohorts across the European continent and beyond (https://chip.dk/Studies/RESPOND). The
aim of RESPOND is to build an innovative, flexible and dynamic cohort
consortium for the study of infectious diseases, including HIV and people at
risk for HIV, as a generic structure for facilitating multi stakeholder
involvement. This consortium builds upon the outstanding collaborative work in
HIV cohort studies that has taken place in Europe and beyond over the last 20
years and which has provided crucial information contributing to the
improvement in the lives of HIV-positive individuals.
CHIP with international collaborators has secured EU-funding to launch the
Common Action against HIV/TB/HCV across the Regions of Europe (CARE). The overall objective of
CARE (Common Action against HIV/TB/HCV across the Regions of Europe) is to
analyse and combat the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis (TB)
and hepatitis C (HCV) epidemics across the European Region with a specific
focus on the Russian Federation, Georgia and Ukraine, through the establishment
and expansion of previously created EU-Russian networks. The consortium
consists of cutting edge scientists from across Europe including Russia able to
collectively address ongoing public health challenges related to HIV, TB and
HCV.
The
position is initially for a one-year period where you and key RESPOND and CARE
researchers will prepare a research protocol forming the basis for the
submission of a PhD application to the University of Copenhagen. The PhD
student is expected to manage prospective longitudinal data collection in close
contact with collaborating hospitals and clinics, as well as ensure that blood
samples are collected from CARE participants and stored for future host
genomics analyses. At the same time, she/he will pursue a scientific career,
under the supervision of experienced researchers, presenting research findings
at national and international conferences and publishing manuscripts in
peer-reviewed journals.
This
application should be submitted within 6 months of the hiring date. Depending
on the outcome, the position will be extended for the duration of the PhD
study. Your supervisors will oversee the development of the PhD application and
act as advisors during the course of the PhD study.
Qualifications
You
are a medical doctor, have excellent IT and communication skills and are able
to use English as working language. Candidates with previous research
experience will be preferred. Speaking/writing Russian is an asset.
Conditions
Salary and
employment conditions are in accordance with current public agreements between
the Capital
Region of
Copenhagen and AC. Your work place will be Department of Infectious Diseases at
Rigshospitalet.
The position is funded
by research grants. We want to reflect the surrounding society and encourage
everyone regardless of personal background to apply.
