Copenhagen and the hospitals in the Capital Region. The Hospital

Research and education
The Department of Cardiology has in recent years focused on expanding the
research program. The department has one professor who is responsible for the Research
Unit and who is performing research in preventive cardiology and rehabilitation.
In addition, the department hosts four senior researchers, 12 young researchers
(PhD students and medical students doing a research year), and one post.doc. in
nursing.
The department is educationally active with a focus on maintaining a good
educational environment. The medical students' evaluations of the clinical
stays / training courses are very positive.
Quality
At the department and at the hospital, quality work, development and safety for
the patients at all management levels have great awareness. Special focus is on
medication and collaboration between sectors to improve safety for the patients.
Clinical functions and
focus areas of the department
The department wishes to use the professorship actively in maintaining and
expanding the field of acute cardiology. Cardiovascular disease often presents
itself acutely and leads to more than 100,000 acute admissions in Denmark per
year. Although the pre-hospital function in Denmark is well-functioning, a
considerable proportion of the acute referrals represent patients with
unresolved cardiovascular symptoms, including serious life-threatening
conditions, where visitation and time to diagnosis and treatment are crucial
for treatment success. To ensure an efficient and up-to-date program for these
patients, a systematic effort is required both at the initial assessment and the
treatment level secured by specialists in cardiology, but with formalized
collaboration with other specialties including acute medicine and other sectors.
The professorship in acute cardiology should focus on establishing systems
for early and effective identification and examination of acute patients with
cardiovascular diseases through training of relevant actors. The applicant must
possess unique clinical skills in internal medicine and cardiology. The
applicant must expect to have tasks in the cardiology wards with working hours
until 9 PM (weekdays). Other clinical functions can be planed according to the applicant’s
special interest and skills.
Research and teaching
In addition
to the daily work in the clinic, the work tasks will include development of and
research in the subject area, research training and further education of
researchers. With this new position as consultant in cardiology
and clinical professor of cardiology with
special focus on acute cardiology, the Department of Cardiology wishes to
strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The clinical
professor, together with the department's other professor, will be responsible
for the department's research. The department wishes to reinforce its national
and international research and clinical cooperation when hiring. Therefore,
great emphasis is placed on the applicant having a solid national and
international network.
The professorship must ensure a research program covering optimization of
patient flow and safety for acute cardiology patients and that contributes to
the development of new diagnostic strategies and medical treatment options for
patients with acute cardiological disorders such as acute heart failure,
thromboembolic disorders, cardiac arrhythmias and acute chest pain.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Cardiology.
The academic assessment of the applicant in relation to the consultancy will
be based on the applicant's information on his / her competencies within the 7
areas of competence corresponding to the 7 roles of physicians, cf. link below.
A professor
with considerable scientific production and experience with research
management, including PhD guidance, is requested. In addition, it is expected
that the applicant has appropriate qualifications to undertake teaching.
Conditions
To be considered for the positions, the applicant must send an
application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the
consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship.
Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both
positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as
consultants at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital.
The position is a full-time job without
limit for highest working hours. As clinical
professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks
(e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public)
in agreement with the head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University
of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in
agreement with the head of the Department of Cardiology.
The position will run for a
5-year period with possibility of extension. Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed
between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists
and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support
equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Cardiology.

with the head of the Department of Cardiology, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg
Hospital.
