Consultancy in Otorhinolaryngology combined with a clinical professorship in Otorhinolaryngology
A permanent clinical position as consultant of Otorhinolaryngology at the Department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department deals with all fields in the otorhinolaryngology specialty except for treatment of Head and Neck cancers according to the National speciality plan. The department also perform maxillofacial surgery. The department covers:

otology except for cochlear implantation and inner ear surgery
-
audiology
-
vestibulogy except for Epley chair treatment and vestibular surgery
-
benign sinonasal diseases including computer-aided surgery
-
salivary gland diseases incl sialoendoscopy
-
diagnostics for head and neck cancers
-
head and neck traumas
-
phoniatric and laryngeal diseases incl. logopedy
-
upper eosophageal diseases as Zenker diverticulum
-
sleep apnea
-
rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients
-
acute ENT diseases
-
minor vascular malformations
-
orthognatic surgery
The department is especially wellknown for its specialized phonatric and sleep apnoea outpatient clinics.
The department educates specialists and performs education of medical students from Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
The department collaborates closely with practising ENT-consultants, dentists, paediatrics (notably children with upper respiratory tract infections), neurologists (notably patients with vertigo and cranial nerve symptoms), endocrinology (disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid), microbiology (infectious diseases), pathology (tumour diagnosis), radiology and clinical physiology (image diagnostics), oncology (treatment of malignant tumours), palliative care and terminal treatment.
The department consists of the following units:

A bedunit for acute and elective surgery (24 beds)

An ENT-outpatient clinic covering the above mentioned areas

Three audiology outpatient clinics

ENT theatre

Research unit

Administrative unit
The research unit consists of several active researchers with both medical and nursing backgrounds. The unit includes PhD-students and graduate students. The research unit has an ambitious strategy and works closely with the departments leaders in strengthening research especially in the fields of epidemiology, RCT’s, sleep apnoea, QoL studies and continuity of care.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in Otorhinolaryngology and clinical professor of Otorhinolaryngology the Department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Otorhinolaryngology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Surgery, Zealand University Hospital.
