Consultancy in Plastic Surgery at the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, combined with a clinical professorship in Plastic Surgery

A permanent clinical position as consultant of Plastic Surgery at the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Plastic Surgery at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment, Rigshospitalet wishes to continue to be a spearhead in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy

The Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment
The department harbours all highly specialized treatments of Plastic Surgery in Denmark and is therefore obliged to promote clinical research and develop and evaluated new techniques in these specific areas of the speciality.
The department is divided into 4 sections: Section of Oncological plastic surgery (melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer), Section for Burns treatment, Section for Cleft Lip and Palate, Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery (incl. microsurgery). The Department also handles the surgical aspects of the treatment of transgender patients.
In addition, the Department receives referred patients from all over Denmark and specialises in treating patients with rare diseases, vascular anomalies, necrotizing fasciitis in collaboration with the Department of Anaesthesiology for hyperbaric treatment.

The Department has an excellent collaboration with almost all other surgical Departments at Rigshospitalet. The department collaborates with the Department of Breast surgery, Herlev Hospital, in all aspects of breast reconstruction both immediate and delayed.
In addition, with the Department of ENT for reconstructions of the head and neck, the Department of Orthopedics for reconstruction of highly traumatized patients, patients undergoing highly specialized sarcoma surgery and reconstruction as well as patients treated for sarcomas and rescue for patients with problematic alloplastic operations. Department of Gynaecology for reconstruction of the vulvar and perineal regions.

The section of Oncological plastic surgery has an extended collaboration with the Department of Dermatology and oncological departments in the region (The Capital Region of Denmark).

 The “HovedOrthoCentre” The Centre of Head and Orthopaedics
The Centre of Head and Orthopaedics ” is one of six centres at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, and harbours the majority of the surgical specialities at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, the Department of Orthopaedic surgery, Department of Ear- Nose and Throat surgery (ENT department), Department of Ocular diseases, Department of Rheumatology and Back diseases, Department of Occupational- and Physiotherapy, Department of Odontology. In addition, the Centre holds the largest level 1 Trauma Centre in Denmark, and finally the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment.

The majority of the Departments in the centre will move to the new North Wing of the hospital in January 2020.

 

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

Research and Teaching
With the new position as consultant of Plastic Surgery and clinical professor of Plastic Surgery the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment wishes to spearhead the national leadership in clinical research and training.

Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in plastic surgery.

Requirements
In order to be considered, the applicant must forward an application to the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) as well, the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital.
