Clinical position as consultant or staff specialist combined with a clinical research associate professorship in Emergency Medicine

 

A clinical position as consultant or staff specialist of any relevant specialty at the Department of Emergency Medicine at Zealand University Hospital, Køge is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

 

The position as consultant or staff specialist is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical research associate professor in Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

 

With this new position the Department of Emergency Medicine at Zealand University Hospital, Køge wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

 

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the clinical research associate professorship and the clinical position.

 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Emergency at Zealand University Hospital, Køge is organized as an independent Department with own doctor- and nursing-staff and was founded in 2009. The ambition is to create the most advanced and leading Emergency Department in Denmark.

 

The Department receives about 43.000 patients/year for evaluation and treatment and is deeply involved in education of junior doctors (KBU/internship, residence in emergency and family medicine) as well as medical students. The Department consists of an area for minor injuries (5 beds), major illness and resuscitation (17 beds), observation (6 beds) and a short-stay-unit (21 beds).

 

Organization:

The Region of Zealand has a population of approximately 820.000 citizens who are under the care of four hospital units. Zealand University Hospital is one of these units and is constituted by a division in Roskilde and a division in Køge. Zealand University Hospital has at present approximately 700 beds and cover most medical specialties. The division at Roskilde primarily treats specialist diseases whereas the division in Køge also treats more general conditions and emergencies. In 2024 Zealand University Hospital becomes the main regional hospital with a centralization of nearly all medical specialties and a total of 835 beds.

 

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department:

Research and teaching:

With the new position as consultant or staff specialist and clinical research associate professor of Emergency Medicine, the Department of Emergency Medicine, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. In particular, the Department of Emergency Medicine has a central role in the development of the Medical School curriculum under development in Region Zealand in close collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

 

The Department teaches medical students at the University of Copenhagen as well as post-graduate doctors and doctors in training in Emergency Medicine.

 

Qualifications:

For the position as consultant: Specialist in a clinical relevant specialty (e.g. emergency medicine, internal medicine and subspecialties, surgery, orthopedic surgery, family medicine).

Applicants for a position as consultant or as staff specialist must be board-certified specialist.

 

Conditions:

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the clinical research associate professorship) and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the clinical research associate professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants or staff specialists at Zealand University Hospital.

 

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant or staff specialist are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

 

As clinical research associate professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Zealand University Hospital, Køge.
