Consultancy in clinical physiology and nuclear medicine combined with a clinical professorship in clinical physiology and nuclear medicine with special focus on evaluation and implementation of hybrid imaging in lung cancer

A clinical position as consultant of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor in clinical physiology & nuclear medicine with special focus on evaluation and implementation of hybrid imaging in cancer at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation

The Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET is part of the Centre of Diagnostic Investigations at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. The department offers diagnostic procedures within all aspects of clinical physiology and nuclear medicine (SPECT/CT, PET/CT and PET/MR) as well as radionuclide treatment. The department has a large cyclotron unit and radiopharmacy, producing a variety of tracers for internal as well as external use. Primarily located at Rigshospitalet Blegdamsvej with a smaller section at Rigshospitalet Glostrup the department employs a total staff of more than 200 persons including 5 professors and 23 consultants.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The main objective of the department is to provide the best care for each and every patient, while at the same time performing research at the highest international level and contribute to both pre- and post-graduate teaching. The department offers a very broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures and treatments at the highest specialist level to the adult as well paediatric patient. With more than 15,000 examinations per year PET/CT for evaluation of patients with cancer, infection and inflammation is one of the key clinical functions in the department. This includes testing of new tracers and investigating the clinical indications for these as well as being part of the development of modern radiotherapy planning. Clinical research is imbedded in everyday work and all team members are involved in research protocols in order to optimize the clinical use of PET/CT and staying at the forefront for implementing new knowledge.

We expect the applicant to be a high-level clinician experienced in the field of PET/CT, eager to participate in clinical work including reporting as well as multidisciplinary team conferences and tumour boards.  As a key member of the PET/CT team the applicant will be expected to contribute to setting the standard for examinations performed in the department as well as provide a critical view on how best to optimize resources and output.

Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in clinical physiology & nuclear medicine and clinical professor,

in clinical physiology and nuclear medicine with special focus on evaluation and implementation of hybrid imaging in cancer the Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. With a focus on clinical evaluation and implementation of hybrid imaging the department also wish to strengthen collaboration with other specialities within the Centre for Diagnostic Investigations as well as national and international partners.

Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in clinical physiology and nuclear medicine and with solid experience in PET/CT reporting as well as documented teaching and clinical research experience.

ABOUT THE CENTRE
The Centre of Diagnostic Investigation comprises a collection of highly specialized departments: Diagnostic radiology, clinical biochemistry, pathology, clinical immunology, clinical physiology/nuclearmedicine and PET, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, center of genomic medicine.  
The center has a staff of 1.600 and an annual turnover of 1 billion kroner. The center produces annually 10 mill. laboratory analyses and performs 650.000 image diagnostics based on 1 mill. contacts with patients and donors. The core task is high-level research, strong educational environments, customized diagnostics and patient treatment. 37 professors and other researchers provides annually more than 500 scientific articles in international reputable journals.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET, Rigshospitalet.
