Consultancy in Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Medicine and Patophysiology
A clinical position as consultant of Anaesthesiology at the Department of Anaesthesiology of the Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases at Rigshospitalet, is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical Professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Medicine and Patophysiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Anaesthesiology, Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Anaesthesiology at the Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases at Rigshospitalet is an independent department with local clinical and administrative management and is referring to the management board of The Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases and to the management board of Rigshospitalet.
The main clinical functions of the Department and focus areas are to provide anaesthesia and surgical assistance as well as perioperative care for patients undergoing major vascular surgery, major gastrointestinal and urological surgery. The clinical functions also cover anaesthesia for liver-, simultaneous kidney-pancreas- and kidney transplantations as well as trauma surgery. Intermediary and recovery units are also elements of the department’s responsibility. Each year the department provides about 8.000 anaesthesia procedures.
Research and teaching
With the new position as Consultant in Anaesthesiology and clinical professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Medicine and Patophysiology, the Department of Anaesthesiology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
The department is responsible for education of medical students and has a considerably involvement in the education of anaesthesiologists, anaesthetic, postoperative recovery nurses.
At present the department employs more than five Ph.D students all working within special focus on perioperative medicine and pathophysiology.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialists in Anaesthesiology since the successful candidate is expected to participate in clinical work within all parts of the departments perioperative commitments in particular the care of highly complex surgical patients and the perioperative - and postoperative care. This group of patients is the fundament of the research of the present professorship.
Considerably clinical practical knowledge in handling perioperative optimization and haemodynamic monitoring are essential requirements for applicants as the Consultant is expected to perform both anaesthesia for the actual patients as well as assisting the clinical leadership within the further development of care pathways.
The applicant must be able to document special research interest and experience in perioperative medicine and pathophysiology and be able to identify significant contributions for the surgical patient in order to prevent the risks for postoperative complications and develop initiatives for markedly reducing complications and advance convalescence. The professorship has to focus on the anaesthetic efforts in the perioperative period.
Applicant must be able to develop plans for further research in the actual subject as well as implementing research results in clinical practice for the surgical patient.
The applicant must have distinct leadership qualifications as part of the anaesthesia tasks take place in a highly specialised hospital in Greater Copenhagen. The applicant is expected to participate in clinical development of care pathways plus active formulate research questions within the perioperative fields in combination with playing an active role in implementation of research findings. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to document experience in administrating anaesthesia within surgical gastroenterology, vasculary surgery and urology.
Terms and Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send two applications: one to the Faculty (the professorship) and one to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as Consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions (Danske Regioner) and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists as well as between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology, Centre of Cancer and Organ Diseases, Rigshospitalet. The clinical Professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a fulltime secretary position from the department of Anaesthesiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology, Centre of Cancer and Organ Diseases, Rigshospitalet.
