Clinical Professor of Metabolic Bone Diseases (combined position)

A combined position as clinical professor of metabolic bone diseases (50%) at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and as consultant (50%) at the Department of Endocrinology, Odense University Hospital (OUH) is vacant for a period of five years with possibility of extension from July 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

The position as professor will be affiliated with the Endocrine Research Unit, Molecular Endocrinology Research Unit (KMEB), Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU, and the Department of Endocrinology, OUH and the Steno Diabetes Center Odense.

Your profile

You must be qualified as a consultant in Internal Medicine: Endocrinology and have a special interest and documented experience in management of common and rare skeletal disorders.

You have experience with clinical and translational research methodologies and demonstrate the ability to build bridges between different areas of research within endocrinology. A track record in successful research collaborations with other basic and clinical disciplines will be considered essential for this position.

You must have a strong academic track record, including successful grant writing, pre-graduate and PhD training, leadership and communication, team management and international partnerships.

Good oral, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills will be required.

Academic responsibilities

You will be expected to participate in on-call duties at the Department of Endocrinology.

You will be assigned to develop and perform innovative clinical and translational research in metabolic bone diseases at the Endocrine Research Unit (clinical research) and the Molecular Endocrinology (KMEB) Research Unit (translational research) in close collaboration with Steno Diabetes Center Odense.

Furthermore, you will collaborate with other senior scientists and clinicians in developing and implementing the Endocrine Research Unit’s research strategy.

While continuing and developing on-going research activities, you will be expected to proactively develop and support collaborations within the Endocrine Research Unit/ Molecular Endocrinology Research Unit (KMEB) and the Steno Diabetes Center Odense as well as other closely associated research units at OUH and SDU.

You will actively collaborate in, and further develop, national and international networks.

You will supervise research training of pre-graduate and PhD-students and assume teaching responsibilities and contribute to developing new course modules as needed.

Finally, you will be expected to partake in public engagement activities and strengthen the public profile of the Endocrine Research Unit, OUH and SDU.

Clinical responsibilities

You will be appointed as consultant at the Department of Endocrinology, Odense University Hospital, Odense. You will be expected to fulfil the requirements and responsibilities of a consultant at the department, which provides clinical management of a broad range of endocrine conditions. 

Your main clinical responsibility will be to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with common and rare metabolic bone diseases and associated conditions such as calcium and phosphate disorders. 

You will also participate in clinical management of patients with highly specialized diseases managed at the Department of Endocrinology.

It is anticipated that you will assume public responsibilities such as assessment of new therapies of metabolic bone disease and participate in committees regarding the development of national treatment guidelines.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant for the clinical professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
