Consultancy in paediatrics combined with a clinical professorship in paediatrics with special focus on asthma and allergy

 

A clinical position as consultant in paediatrics at the Department for Children and Adolescents at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

 

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of paediatrics with special focus on asthma and allergy at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

 

With this new position the Department for Children and Adolescents at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital and hereby Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood (COPSAC) wish to strengthen translational research in asthma and allergy by leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

 

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Denmark. It has 6.300 employees and 22 departments offering treatment for almost all diseases - with the most modern technology available. The hospital is one of the Capital Region's four hospitals responsible for acute treatment and has a 24h emergency department.

 

The department for children and adolescents is a large general department. The catchment area covers a population of about 500,000 inhabitants in the Region Capital with approximately 15.000 admissions, 23.000 visits in the outpatient clinic and 12.000 visits in the emergency room.

 

The department has highly specialized function in treatment of asthma and allergy. The function is headed by a specialist in paediatric allergology and asthma and the team consist of specialized doctors and nurses.   There is a close collaboration between the out-patient clinic, the bedded wards and the emergency room. Furthermore, collaboration with The Allergy Clinic, Gentofte Hospital regarding severe allergy in adolescents and young adults has been established.

 

In addition to allergy, the department has highly specialized function in paediatric diabetes, Tourette's syndrome and social paediatrics.

 

Other focus areas are:  Paediatric neurology, endocrinology, neonatology, acute paediatrics, infectious diseases, nephro-urology and gastroenterology.

The research unit covers beside asthma and allergy the areas of type I diabetes, other endocrinology and paediatric neurology.

 

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in paediatrics and clinical professor of paediatrics with special focus on asthma and allergy, the Department of Children and Adolescents wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in paediatrics.

 

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.

 

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

 

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of department of Children and Adolescents. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from COPSAC. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of department of Children and Adolescents, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital and COPSAC.
