Consultancy in Nephrology combined with a clinical professorship in Internal Medicine: Nephrology
A clinical position as consultant of Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand at the Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology is open for appointment as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealandis the Capital Region's large emergency hospital for 315,000 citizens in North Zealand. The hospital has wards and functions at three addresses: Hillerød, Frederikssund and Sundhedshuset Helsingør. The hospital also runs Montebello - Rehabilitation Department located in Spain. In 2024, North Zealand Hospital will be relocated to a completely new hospital located in Hillerød.
The Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealandhandles, in close collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, the Department of Pulmonary and Infectious Diseases and the Gastromedical function, specialists’ functions within the six specialties and treatment of internal medicine patients. We are an integral part of the joint Emergency Department. The functions are centered around Hillerød. The hospital and Department participate in the education of medicinal students from University of Copenhagen
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The department run a large Nephrological clinic that handles approximately 150 hemodialysis and 40 peritonealdialysis patients. We have an outpatient clinic that handles in approximately 2000 patients. Our activities range widely and cover the entire nephrological spectrum. Initial treatment of selected cases of acute glomerulonephritis, vasculitis and transplantation is done in close collaboration with Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet. We have a joint endocrinological-nephrological outpatient clinic, with special focus on patients with diabetic nephropathy
Further, the department run a large endocrinology outpatient clinic that handles approximately 6-7000 patients. We treat type 1 diabetes (including Insulin pump treatment), type 2 diabetes, pregnancy diabetes, thyroid diseases and osteoporosis. In connection with the osteoporosis clinic, we have established an in-hospital fracture detection clinic (Fracture
Liaison Service)
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in Nephrology and clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology the Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. Currently we have 1 PhD student (medical doctor) and different ongoing studies inside AKI, CKD-MBD, ADPKD and glomerulonephritis. In the nephrological section there is one clinical associate professor.
The endocrinological research environment has been built and consolidated over the past 20
years. It has an international level and is particularly strong in hypoglycaemia and insulin therapy. There are currently 5 PhD students (doctors). In the endocrinology section there is a professor, a clinical associate professor and 5 part-time researchers
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Nephrology.
Conditions

Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Endocrinology and Nephrological Dept. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Endocrinology and Nephrology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Endocrinology and nephrology, North Zealand Hospital.
