Consultancy in Nephrology combined with a clinical professorship in Internal Medicine: Nephrology

A clinical position as consultant of nephrology at the Department of Internal Medicine / Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Internal Medicine / Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Internal Medicine / Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk is a separate part of the Department of Internal Medicine at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk.
Present status of the department:
The department of internal medicine is one of the largest departments of internal medicine in Denmark with 173 beds in six different specialities of internal medicine (cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, and the geriatric speciality in combination with nephrology).
The section of nephrology covers one half of Region Zealand which equals approximately 400.000 citizens.
The medical staff involves 7 nephrology specialists and 4-6 doctors under education at different levels. The department is involved in the nephrology specialist education.
There is in the section of nephrology a consultant responsible for education and a consultant responsible for clinical research.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The department is taking care of patients with acute and chronic nephropathy including kidney transplant patients and patients with chronic kidney disease.
In the section of nephrology there are 24 beds for admitted patients, two hemodialysis departments with 170 hemodialysis patients (Center hemodialysis, selfcare hemodialysis and home hemodialysis), a section with 50 peritonealdialysis patients, outpatient clinics controlling kidney transplant patients and patients with chronic kidney disease. In addition to chronic dialysis we perform acute dialysis treatment in the connected intensive care unit.
Education and clinical research are important focus areas at the medical department.
The combination of consultancy and a clinical professorship will provide an interesting possibility of combining academic task in relation to the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen with consultancy in a part of Denmark where the need for high qualifications in the area of internal medicine and nephrology is important.

Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in nephrology and clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology the Department of Internal Medicine / Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Nephrology.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of internal medicine at Holbæk. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Copenhagen University Hospital – Holbæk.
