Consultancy in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology

A permanent clinical position as consultant of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology at the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from the autumn 2021.

The position is combined with a fixed-term, 10 year position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department is specialized in anaesthesia and intensive care for adult and paediatric cardiothoracic patients and handles a broad range of surgical procedures including heart and lung transplantation as well as various kinds of mechanical circulatory support systems.

The department receives patients from all Regions of Denmark as well as from Greenland and the Faroe Islands. In addition to our clinical responsibilities the department has extensive educational activities involving several groups of professionals. 

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and clinical professor of Anaesthesiology the department wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Anaesthesiology. In addition, we require that the applicant is/has:

• An expert in cardiothoracic anaesthesiology or in intensive care medicine and is particularly capable in haemodynamic monitoring and treatment
• A specific interest in complex pulmonary and circulatory physiology
• Experience from an international setting
• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, empathic and a good team player
• Indisputable integrity

 

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
