Consultancy in Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology

A clinical position as consultant in Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology at Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand, is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the hospital and department

Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand

Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand is one of four emergency admission hospitals serving the Capital Region of Denmark. The hospital comprises North Zealand - Hillerød, North Zealand – Frederikssund, North Zealand - Sundhedshuset Helsingør and North Zealand – Montebello and has 3.600 employees. Annually, there are 350.000 outpatient visits, 75.000 admissions, 45,000 operations and 4,100 births.

Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care

The ICU has approximately 700 admissions each year and have a research unit with two nurses, three Ph.D. students and three medical students.

The Department provides anaesthesia to 18.000 patients each year.  The department have operating theatres for Abdominal-, Orthopedic-, Obstetric and Gynaecology- and Oto-rhino-laryngologi-surgery. The department also provide anaesthesia for CT and MRI scanning, DC convention and ECT.

The department takes part in  in the educations of medical students and nursing students, special education of nurses at the operating theatres, the ICU and PACU and in the education of specialists in Anaesthesiology. There are 63 doctors, one Head of Department, 40 consultants and 23 doctors in training in the department. In 2019 a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Pain Therapy and Peripheral Nerve Blocks was filled. The total number of employees is approximately 385.

The department is being led by a leadership team comprised of the medical Head of Department and the Head Nurse. The professor consultant will refer to the leadership team.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant and clinical professor of Anaesthesiology the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The Department's research Unit is chaired by the research officer who will refer to thee professors. 4-5 PhD students are currently affiliated. Special priority is clinical research in anaesthesia/peri-operative therapy, including in particular regional anaesthesia and respiratory tract management as well as intensive therapy, especially sepsis/septic shock and acute renal failure including biomarkers for acute renal failure.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Anaesthesiology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at the Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Hospital, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand.
