Consultancy in Urology combined with a clinical professorship in Urology with a particular focus on Renal Cancer
A clinical position as consultant of Urology at the Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Urology with a particular focus on Renal Cancer at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position, the Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted to be appointed for both the professorship and consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Urology, Zealand University Hospital, handles the overall urological function in the Region of Zealand.
Our department takes acre of all acute urological conditions in the region. In addition to basic urology, the department is in charge of the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with urological cancers, and we handle the following urological regional functions: kidney surgery (laparoscopic and robot assisted), advanced stone surgery, including PNL, RIRS and ESWL as well as paediatric urology.
Since September 2018, the department has taken over the surgical treatment of prostate cancer (radical prostatectomy), which is a highly specialised function.
The Department has 38 beds divided into two wards; disposes of 16 weekly operating rooms in Roskilde and 12 weekly operating rooms in Næstved. In addition, surgery is performed in the day surgery section.
The out-patient clinic has a total of 40 weekly examination/treatment rooms in Roskilde and in Næstved. A surgery room has been established, for operations in local anaesthesia in the out-patient clinic, including Botox injections, penoscrotal disorders and, as something completely new, laser ablation of recurrences of benign bladder tumors.
We have modern endourological equipment incl. Holmium laser, SOLTIVE laser, TUMT, and advanced equipment for percutaneous kidney stone treatment and for laparoscopic urology. Since the autumn of 2012, the department at Roskilde has been performing robot-assisted urinary tract surgery, including kidney surgery and later in 2018 radical prostatectomy.
The medical staff at the Department of Urology consists of 1 Senior Consultant, 13 consultants, 12 staff specialists, and 26 residents.
Clinical functions and focus areas
The consultant will be part of the strong specialist renal cancer team, which consists of two consultants, one staff specialist and periodic affiliated residents.
The consultant must be an active player in the development of the team and participate in the diagnostic and treatment of kidney cancer, including further development of surgical techniques within the subspecialty. In addition, you are expected to take part in the team's daily tasks, including visitation, MDT and other administrative work.
You will have a versatile function across wards, out-patient clinic and operating theater.

Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant and clinical professor of Urology with a particular focus on Renal Cancer, the Department of Urology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
The Department of Urology has a well-established and growing clinical research unit with one research lecturer. The department has active medical PhD students at the University of Copenhagen and 2 engineer PhD students, one from Roskilde University and the other from DTU, and there is a plan to start 2 medicine students in the PhD-program soon. We consider research and innovation an essential part of the tasks at Zealand University Hospital.
Zealand University Hospital collaborates with the University of Copenhagen. The Urological Department is in charge of clinical teaching of medical students for the 1st and 3rd semester bachelor and 3rd semester candidate following an agreement with the University of Copenhagen. In addition to a research associate professor, the department has three clinical associate professors .
Medical training is highly prioritised. Apart from medical students, the department is responsible of training 26 urology residents at different levels.
Overall, the department emphasises creating an excellent educational environment for all doctors with the opportunity for professional sparring and development.
With the new position as consultant and clinical professor of Urology at the Department of Urology at Zealand University Hospital, we wish to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialists in Urology.
The applicant must have high-level experience in diagnosing and treating patients with renal cancer, using the most advanced treatment options such as robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques and active surveillance, with focus on individualised treatment. You must be able to perform complex renal surgical procedures, such as advanced partial nephrectomy, re-partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, and complex urological surgical procedures. We have wide experience in advanced renal cancer disease and dealing with metastatic renal cancer through the well-established multidisciplinary approach, which we also expect you to have. In addition, high-level research experience in renal cancer is mandatory.
The applicant should be ready to contribute in general to the continued development of the department.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty of Health Scineces at the University of Copenhagen (the professorship) and to the Head of Department of Urology (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of urology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of urology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Urology, Zealand University Hospital.
