Consultancy as an Orthopedic Surgeon combined with a Clinical Professorship in Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

Applications are invited for a permanent position as consultant of Orthopedic Surgery at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Roskilde and Køge Hospital beginning as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a five-year externally funded position as Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

This newly created position is an integral part of the department’s policy of strengthening the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment to both the professorship and the consultancy.

THE DEPARTMENT

Organization
The Region of Zealand has a population of approximately 816.000 citizens who are under the care of four hospital units. The Zealand University Hospital constitute one of these units and have a single hospital management. They have at present approximately 700 beds and cover most medical specialties. The Orthopedic Department is located at Koege Hospital. In 2021 the Zealand University Hospital becomes the main regional hospital with a centralization all medical specialties and a total of 900 beds.State of the art technology will be introduced, the ambition being that research will become an integral part of the organization’s everyday functions.

At Zealand University Hospital we are very dedicated to ensure the best patient experience. It is emphasized in the strategy “The Patient Above All”, in which the mission is the patient and the vision is superior quality. To achieve superior quality one aspect of the strategy and the daily focus in the departments is a strong focus on research and development of clinical skills. Another aspect of the strategy is the patient’s view in order to establish perfect patient flows.

The Orthopedic Department covers all areas of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery. It is the regional center for specialized treatment in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Arthroscopic Surgery and Foot and Ankle Surgery investigations and treatments. The department has 2 wards and a total of 72 hospital beds. Orthopedic department has 35 operation theaters weekly. Approximately 7000 admissions and 30.000 outpatient consultations are carried out each year. Koege Hospital is a level 2 trauma center and admits acute patients round the clock. Elective patients are admitted from all of the Zealand region and the rest of Denmark in accordance with the principal of freedom of hospital choice for all Danish residents.


Research and teaching
This newly created position as Clinical Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery is part of the departmental ambition to strengthen clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications
The applicant must be a board-certified specialist in Orthopedic Surgery.

Conditions
Only applicants for the position as Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at University of Copenhagen can apply for this position. Appointment is conditional on acceptance for both positions.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As Research Professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in cooperation with the head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated to clinical work as agreed with the head of the Department Orthopedic Surgery, Koege Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department Orthopedic Surgery, Koege Hospital.

The successful applicant will have access to individual research funding support (3 million DKR) from the Zealand Region Professorial Research fund.
