PhD, CHIP - Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections, Dept. of Infectious Diseases, Rigshospitalet

We are looking for a full-time PhD student for a project at CHIP - an academic research Centre of Excellence with offices at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Rigshospitalet.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection results in more than a million deaths per year. The infection can be controlled with antiretroviral therapy that suppresses viral replication. Nonetheless, replication still occurs and genetic diversity is generated in the viral population. This results in the selection of drug resistance mutations (DRMs) that make the virus more resistant to treatment. The aim of the current project is to characterize inter- and intra-patient viral population diversity, including identification of DRMs, to increase our understanding of the genetic determinants of HIV infection and guide the design of treatment strategies.

As coordinating center for international trials, CHIP is a leader in the field of conducting international clinical and observational research involving patients with HIV or other infectious diseases. CHIP is a dynamic group with 45 full-time employees and satellite offices in Germany, Spain and United Kingdom.
