Postdoc Fellowship in zebrafish heart and liver regeneration (Odense University Hospital/DanStem, Copenhagen University).

BACKGROUND For a joint project between the Andersen Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology (LMCC), Odense University Hospital (OUH) and the Ober Laboratory of Liver development and regeneration (DanStem/Copenhagen University), we are seeking one postdoctoral fellow to be employed and based in the Andersen laboratory.

The Andersen lab utilizes regenerative medicine to improve heart repair following myocardial infarction working on two different settings: one investigating the (pre)clinical use of bioengineered blood vessels for bypass surgery, and another dealing with improvement of heart regeneration following myocardial infarcts. The Ober group aims to understand how functional organs form in development and disease employing zebrafish genetics to examine the mechanisms of progenitor cell self-organization into a functional tissue during development and re-establishing tissue organization following liver injury.

Job content To better understand heart and liver regeneration, the candidate will identify regulators of cell cycle re-entry of differentiated cells following heart and liver injury and search for organ-specific and common mechanisms. The candidate will combine zebrafish cell ablation models with confocal imaging, FACS-based cell sorting as well as single cell transcriptomics. Candidate factors will be tested by in vitro and then by in vivo assays. The employment is planned to start April 1st 2018 or as soon as possible, and is for 2 years with possibility for extension.

Qualifications The qualified applicant holds a PhD degree in Cell Biology/Molecular Biology/Medicine/Biomedicine or similar, and with expertise within at least one of the following areas: Confocal imaging, flow cytometry/FACS, gene profiling/bioinformatics and heart/liver biology. Zebrafish experience is an advantage, but not mandatory. The candidate is expected to be able to communicate fluently in spoken and written English. Moreover, the candidate is expected to demonstrate authorship(s) in internationally peer-reviewed publications.
