PhD position at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen within epidemiology and diabetes in vulnerable populations

between mental illness and cardiometabolic conditions through statistical
modelling of complex data from national health registers? Then you could be the
new PhD Student in Clinical Epidemiology at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen
(SDCC).
At Steno
Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) we have an open PhD position in the Clinical
Research Unit per December 1, 2018 (or soonest possible). The position is available for a period of 3
years and in a newly established program focusing on vulnerable groups and
lifecourses within the Clinical Epidemiology research group.
With more
than 9000 persons with diabetes in our Clinic, SDCC is the largest diabetes
center in Scandinavia.SDCC is organized in four units: Clinic, Clinical
Research, Education and Health Promotion. The Clinical Research Unit consists
of six research groups with different research areas.
About the research project
The aim of
the project is to investigate the incidence of diabetes, diabetic complications
and progression in clinical markers of diabetes over time among persons with
mental illness.
The project
will take use of Danish health registers and clinical databases with information
on psychiatric and somatic diagnoses, socioeconomic position, medication and
clinical measures. Through statistical modelling the aim is to investigate the
incidence of diabetic complications in persons with mental illness and identify
clinical patterns associated with development in complications.
About the position
As a PhD
student you will be part of this newly established research program focusing on
vulnerable populations and lifecourses. In close collaboration with your
supervisors and your daily manager you will have the responsibility for the
research project on mental illness and diabetes, and you will also be involved in
other research projects within the research program.
Your main
tasks will include development of funding applications, data applications,
linking- , structuring- and managing
data, analysis of data and reporting and dissemination of results through
scientific papers and conferences. You will also reach out to internal and
external collaborators to secure engagement in the project from a number of
relevant partners.
We offer a
cross disciplinary and dynamic epidemiological research environment consisting
of approximately 30 researchers with a diverse background including public
health, statistical, medical, human nutrition and physiology. We work in close collaboration with other
research groups within and outside SDCC including researchers from health
promotion and clinicians from the clinic at SDCC. In the Clinical Epidemiology
research group we have high ambitions and a professional and not least social environment
with room for both laughs and contemplation.
Your qualifications
You have a
degree in medicine, public health or similar.
You are strong in quantitative
analysis, statistics and epidemiology and have a structured mindset.
You are
interested in understanding both social and biological mechanisms in the
interaction between mental and physical health conditions. Previous experience
with epidemiological research and project management is preferred.
You can work
independently but is also a teamplayer that can collaborate and engage people
in the project across departments and disciplines.
Salary and employment
conditions
Salary and
employment in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions and the
Labour Unions. The position is limited to three years. As a PhD student you
will be enrolled at the Faculty of Health at one of the Universities in
Denmark.
