Professor in Experimental Nutrition

At the Department of Clinical Medicine, The Faculty of Medicine, a position as professor in Experimental Nutrition is open for appointment from 1 June 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is not time limited. About the organization. The Department of Clinical Medicine was established 2013. The department is located in connection with Aalborg University Hospital where research, education, and clinical work is united.The Department of Clinical Medicine performs clinical research within all the clinical disciplines and delivers research-based teaching to all areas of the medical master’s degree program. Furthermore, the Department of Clinical Medicine has around 40 research units each with their own speciality. Many of the research units are organized in interdisciplinary collaborations within larger research areas such as coronary diseases, cancer and neurological conditions.

Job description

The position is affiliated to CET, and consists of both research and teaching. The main activity will be research in experimental nutrition in relation to primarily gastrointestinal health and disease resistance, with special emphasis on nutrition, immunology and microbiology. Focus is furthermore given to metabolism and – utilization of nutrients and bioactive components of the food (lipids, fatty acids, lipids soluble vitamins), and the relationship to biomarkers of disease processes.

With this professorship, AAU-SUND wants to strengthen the academic leadership of this area, and to enhance research and innovation nationally as well as internationally. Special focus is given to the gastro-intestinal biology and health, and microbiota- and immunomodulatory components in foods and diets, which can enhance the human disease robustness and promote medical care.

A candidate who is capable in generating the state-of-the-art research focusing on changes in the immune- and inflammatory responses related to nutrition; in the underlying mechanisms; and in the clinical importance is preferred.

Further, the candidate should be experienced in animal model experimentation and laboratory methods in relation to gastro-intestinal diseases, nutrition, and health research. In particular, with this position, the professor should head, stimulate, coordinate and gather research and innovation activities on experimental nutrition, and in collaboration with the research platforms in CET and other platforms, attract funding for research in disease prevention and health promotion.

Teaching will mainly be within gastrointestinal diseases and - health, as well as digestion and absorption of macro- and micronutrients, and nutritional immunology, but can potentially also be elsewhere at Aalborg University.

Qualification requirements

The level of qualification for professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved based on the appointment as professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications and leader experience.　 Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications be at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
