Clinical professor in anesthesiology (combined position)

Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences and University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invite applications for a 5 year combined position with the possibility of extension as Clinical Professor (50%) or Clinical Associate Professor (40%) depending on qualifications and as consultant (50% or 60% if qualified as associate clinical professor) in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Hospital of Southern Jutland, respectively. Physical attendance at the Hospital of Southern Jutland will be expected regarding both positions.  
 
SDU and Hospital of Southern Jutland offer a modern, inclusive, international and interdisciplinary working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition of close collaboration between SDU and the hospitals in the region of Southern Denmark, including Hospital of Southern Jutland.  
 
Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU, is a virtual organisation consisting of a clinical department with collaborative researchers positioned at all the regional hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark and in the Region of Zealand.  
 
Hospital of Southern Jutland consists of three hospitals in the Southern part of Jutland. The hospital has international staff representing many different nationalities. Currently, the scientific staff comprises approximately 40 employees and is expanding in the coming years. The hospital has obligations in teaching and educating medical students, master students, specialist training and PhD students.  
 
Hospital of Southern Jutland is now University Hospital (acknowledgement of high-quality research and education) in the Region of Southern Denmark. From the year 2022, the scientific personnel will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students at the Hospital of South West Jutland in Esbjerg.  
 
The successful candidate will be appointed at the Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be in clinical anesthesiology and focus should include the critically ill patient in the Intensive Care unit and could also be in other areas involving anesthesiology. The applicant is also expected to strengthen research environment in the department.  
 
Research tasks:  
The applicant will be responsible for initiating and developing clinical research in the selected area and implementing the results in close collaboration with the management of the department. The professor or associate professor will also be responsible for establishing and expanding research collaboration in the region, nationally and internationally.
 
Research supervision and teaching:  
The applicant will be expected to perform supervisions function for PhD-graduates and teach undergraduate students.  
 
The clinical position:  
The clinician will be appointed at the Department of Anesthesiology at The Hospital of Southern Jutland as a consultant. An applicant with a strong profile in Intensive Care will be preferred.

Expectations and qualifications:  
The successful candidate will be expected to have  
  • a PhD and must be qualified as a consultant in anesthesiology  
  • research experience documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journal articles within the area  
  • a documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills  
  • proven research management skills  
  • good collaboration and interpersonal skills  
  • visions of how to further strengthen research in the department

Living in Denmark:
