The Research Unit of Infectious Diseases and the Research Unit of Geriatrics, Department of Clinical Research, SDU, and the respective departments at Odense University Hospital invite applications for a position as professor with specific responsibilities in vulnerability (50%) combined with a position as senior nurse in vulnerability (50%) to be filled as soon as possible and for a period of 5 years with possibility of prolongation for additionally 3 years.

The Department of Infectious Diseases, OUH, is a highly specialized department within the region of Southern Denmark, providing care to a population of 1,2 million citizens. The Migrant Health Clinic is an outpatient clinic and part of the Department of Infectious Diseases Q, OUH, and carries out diagnostic evaluation and treatment of primarily ethnic minority patients with a focus on refugee health.

The Department of Geriatric Medicine, OUH, is specialized in the treatment of geriatric and older medical patients. The consultants are specialist in internal medicine and in geriatric medicine.  

In both specialties a large proportion of the treated patients are characterized as being vulnerable e.g. frail older geriatric patients as well as patients with an ethnic minority background. There is an understanding and willingness to embrace these vulnerable patients and approach them holistically. 

However, focused research aimed at these patients is needed in order to optimize their current situation in life. Therefore, a joined position within these two specialties makes an ideal setting to access vulnerable patients clinically and research wise.

Research tasks: 

The professor will be expected to increase the research activity within vulnerability with special focus on older geriatric patients as well as patients with ethnic minority background. Furthermore, to expand collaboration with other researchers at OUH, at SDU, and abroad.

Teaching tasks: 

The professor may engage in teaching at the Faculty of Health Sciences, but the extent of this teaching will be negotiated.

Expectations of qualifications:

·         It will be expected that the applicant is a certified nurse.

·         The applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within a field related to the current position.

·         An academic degree (PhD or equivalent)

·         Results within research in a field related to the current position documented by a list of publications

·         Dynamic performance as documented by peer-reviewed publications

·         Track record in obtaining research funding

·         International research collaboration and collaborations with researchers in other disciplines and sectors

·         Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

·         Danish is not required initially, however, should be mastered within 2 years.
