Specialty Registrar at the Department of Pathology, Aarhus University Hospital
The Department of Pathology, Aarhus University Hospital has one to two vacancies for histopathologists/cytopathologists at specialty registrar level, to start from 1. February 2020 or by agreement.These new posts are part of a major focused development within the department. We are looking for specialist surgical pathologists and are interested in hearing from all qualified applicants, irrespective of their area of specialization. In particular, we are looking to expand the following specialist areas within the department: bone and soft tissue pathology, lung pathology, endocrine pathology, urological pathology, gynaecopathology and fetal pathology. We expect mutual flexibility to ensure that the team collectively is as strong as possible to cover all responsibilities. It is our long-term aim to ensure gradually that all our specialists are able to work within two or three areas, thus providing expert cover for colleagues to ensure a robust and flexible execution of all departmental tasks.
About the department
Aarhus University Hospital (AUH) is a large teaching hospital with all major medical specialities represented. The newly built University Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in Denmark and among the biggest in Europe. There is a close collaboration with Aarhus University.
The Department of Pathology, AUH is a busy and stimulating workplace with high ambitions and room for innovation. We have about 140 employees including 23 consultant/specialty registrar pathologists (three professors) and some 14 residents, making the department one of the largest of its kind in Denmark. The department is the main provider of diagnostic histopathological and cytopathological services in the Central Denmark Region and acts a regional and national reference centre. We have substantial teaching and research duties. We are currently in the process of developing our organization, with the aim of optimizing work processes, coordination and cooperation, in order to continue to deliver pathology services of the highest quality, rapidly and on time.

Together with the other employees in the department and with our clinical colleagues, you will contribute to ensuring the quality and development of the daily diagnostic service. In addition, you will have ample opportunity to participate in research and to take part in teaching medical, dental, and molecular medicine students.
A new modern workplace
In 2017, after many years situated at two separate sites, we moved together into completely new facilities at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby. This has provided new opportunities for cooperation within the department and made a major contribution to the local development of pathology. The department is in the process of implementing digital histopathology reporting. We have a large on-site research laboratory, housing state-of-the-art equipment and technical expertise within the fields of digital and molecular pathology. Our new laboratory facilities have allowed us to bring the department's many research groups together providing excellent opportunities for collaborative research.
About you
We wish to employ a fully qualified specialist in histopathology/cytopathology with a broad education and experience within the field. A particular interest in digital pathology, methods of image analysis, and/or molecular pathology would be welcome. It is important that you have good communication skills, are able to work together as part of a team, and also show initiative and decisiveness in your daily practice. You should be prepared to be evaluated for a position as associate professor at Aarhus University and to contribute to the department's obligations within education and research.
Salary and terms of employment are in line with current collective agreements.
