Consultancy in Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology with special focus on Acute Perioperative Medicine and Pathophysiology

A clinical position as consultant of Anaesthesiology at the Department of Anaesthesiology at Amager Hvidovre Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Anaesthesiology, Amager Hvidovre Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organization

The Department of Anaesthesiology is an independent department with local clinical and administrative management within The Capital Region and are referring to the management board of Amager Hvidovre Hospital.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department concerns anaesthesia and perioperative care for ortopedic surgery, surgical gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology plus intensive, intermediary, recovery units. Number of anaesthesia tasks yearly is about 20.000.

 

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Anaesthesiology and clinical professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on Acute Perioperative Medicine and Pathophysiology the Department of Anaesthesiology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The department is responsible for education of medical students and has a considerably part in education of anaesthesiologists, anaesthetic, intensive, and post-op. recovery nurses.

In present the department prevails five Ph.D. students all working within optimization of the perioperative period for acute surgical patients

 

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Anaesthesiology as the consultancy is expected to participate in clinical work with all parts of the departments perioperative commitments, and specially with acute high risk surgical and ortopedic patients. This group of patients are the foundation in the research of the actual professorship. Considerably clinical practical knowledge in handling perioperative optimization and haemodynamic monitoring in acute surgical patients is essential for the applicants as consultant are expected to perform both anaesthesia for the actual patients as well as assisting the clinical leadership within the further development of care pathways.

The applicants must be able to document special research interest in optimization of acute high-risk surgical patients and plans for further research in the actual subject as well as experience with implementing research results in clinical practice for the acute surgical patient.  

The applicant must have distinct leadership qualifications as part of the anaesthesia tasks take place in a greater mutual operation theatre, and the applicant is expected to participate in clinical development of care pathways plus active formulate research questions within the perioperative fields accordingly playing an active role in implementation of research findings. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to document experience in administrating anaesthesia within surgical gastroenterology, ortopedic surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics.

The principles of intensive monitoring of high-risk surgical patients are expected to be further developed at the Intensive care Unit in the future and experience with monitoring and optimization of haemodynamics of intensive care patients is necessary.

 

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Amager Hvidovre Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Anaesthesiology, Amager Hvidovre Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of Anaesthesiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Anaesthesiology, Amager Hvidovre Hospital.
