Consultancy in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine combined with a clinical professorship in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine

A permanent clinical position as consultant of Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organisation

The Department is the only exclusively respiratory department in the Capital Region of Copenhagen. It has an in-patient ward consisting of 40 beds, of which 4 are designated to patients in need of intermediate care. We receive a total of 3600 in-patients per year. The department also has an out-patient clinic with approximately 20.000 visits per year, half of which are in our dedicated specialist out-patient clinic, the other half in our clinic for investigating pulmonary cancer. In all, there are 160 employees, including 18 consultants. We are proud to have a good working atmosphere characterized by mutual respect and close cooperation between different professional groups as well as areas of function.

As most of our in-patients are acutely hospitalized, the department is a significant collaboration partner within the area of emergency medicine, and the hospital is one of four acute hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark.

The next few years will include considerable development work in the area of infectious medicine, an area that will be based in the respiratory department.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The department handles a wide range of patients with respiratory diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung diseases, allergy, patients with lung infiltrates, patients with need for pulmonary rehabilitation and many other aspects of pulmonary medicine. The department has a leading position both nationally and internationally with regards to the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, in particular in elite athletes. Further, the department covers a wide range of invasive pulmonary procedures in patients suspected of lung cancer including bronchoscopy, transthoracic needle aspiration lung biopsy, endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), ENB and esophageal ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA).

The area of infectious medicine is developing.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Internal medicine: Respiratory medicine and clinical professorship in Internal medicine: Respiratory medicine the Department of Respiratory medicine wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

The department has a longstanding leading position in scientific research and education at a high international level. This applies to both the focus areas mentioned and in other connections. We have a close and fruitful collaboration with researchers both in clinical departments and in universities in Denmark and in other countries. We wish to strengthen this through the new position as consultant and clinical professor. The department has a well-established positive reputation within the area of educating nurses and doctors.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Respiratory Medicine.

We hope for an innovative candidate not only with a long-term vision for our department’s clinical and scientific development in the future, but also a candidate with good collaborative and communicative skills who can contribute with a strategy to reach this vision. Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Respiratory Medicine. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a fulltime secretary position from the Department of Respiratory Medicine. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital.
