A position as PhD student for research in robot-assisted surgery and optimization of perioperative assessment of tissue perfusion is available at Center for Surgical Science (CSS) for a period of 3 years starting from the beginning of 2021.

Are you interested in robot-assisted surgery and imaging? And do you want to run a multi-center project aimed to secure a data-based decision tool for surgeons during colorectal cancer surgeries? Then you might be the doctor we are looking for to a PhD project at Center for Surgical Science at Zealand University Hospital, Køge.

CSS and research

CSS consists of a group of primarily medical doctors and medical students, molecular biologists, a pathologist, data scientists, bioinformaticians, data engineers, nurses, physiotherapists and dieticians. Our aim is to improve the treatment of patients with surgical diseases, minimize morbidity and optimize clinical outcomes. Through a cross-disciplinary research approach, we utilize the full spectrum of the available health information to tailor multi-modal interventions and characterize key issues for patients undergoing surgery in order to individualize pre-, intra- and postoperative treatment.

The benefits of being a Ph.D. student at Center for Surgical Science

In CSS we are engaged in examining innovative interventions before, during and after oncological surgery. We include both clinical and translational research methodologies. The study examines how computer vision during robot-assisted surgery can assist the surgeon and contribute to data-based decisions. You will also be involved in conducting preclinical animal studies, aimed at investigating a whole new diagnostic imaging technique for mapping tissue perfusion during robot-assisted surgery. Throughout the PhD period there will be both patient contact and laboratory work.
