The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Clinical Professor in the field of advanced pre-hospital emergency medicine in relation to the Danish HEMS as per 1 March 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a combined position at Aarhus University and Danish Air Ambulance and is a 5-year part-time position (50 %). The professorship is funded by The Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation. As a clinical professor, you are required to work as Consultant Anaesthesiologist at a Danish hospital with an Emergency Department and as a Consultant at Danish Air Ambulance or at a similar air ambulance service.

Danish Air Ambulance is operated jointly by the five regions and is a cross-regional emergency response service that was established in 2014 as a supplement to the regions’ existing prehospital emergency response services. The emergency medical helicopters are to contribute to ensuring that acutely ill citizens with life-threatening symptoms who reside or are staying far from specialized hospitals are provided with fast access to prehospital specialist treatment. Denmark has a total of four emergency medical helicopters, which are located at the bases in Skive, Billund, Ringsted and Aalborg. The emergency medical helicopters are manned 24 hours a day and can fly to all parts of Denmark. The service is structured identically across all aspect of the organization, for example in terms of the dispatch of the helicopters, the medical organization and the design of the four helicopter bases. The uniform and cross-regional organization of the helicopter service and the high professional level provide good opportunities for research into advanced pre-hospital treatment with the necessary volume.
