Consultancy in the Department of Urological, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital combined with a clinical professorship in Urology with special focus on Sexual Dysfunction, Male Infertility and Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction

A clinical position as consultant of urology at the Department of Urology at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Urology with special focus on Sexual Dysfunction, Male Infertility and Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the Department

The Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and care of urological patients in area of Greater Copenhagen (approximately 1.8 mill. citizens). The department has laboratories to perform urodynamic examinations and ultrasound and both functions are handled by urologists. Furthermore, the department has its own research unit with significant national and international activity. The department works closely with the following departments: oncology, radiology, anesthesia, gynecology, medical endocrinology, clinical physiologist, clinical biochemistry and nephrology.

The department has a high specialized urological function of diagnosis, treatment and control in the following areas: prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, kidney stone, andrology and lower urinary tract dysfunction.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant and clinical professor of Urology with special focus on Sexual Dysfunction, Male Infertility and Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction the Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be a board-certified specialist in urology. Expertise at an international level within the field of andrology and lower urinary tract dysfunction is required. Documented experience in guidance of academic trainees aiming at PhD and doctoral thesis, as well as training and experience in pre-graduate teaching and training, leadership skills and ability to co-operate are prerequisites for the position. The applicant must have extensive collaborative skills, being used to work with clinicians in the clinic but also with both national and international scientific collaborators.

The applicant shall conduct pre- and post-gradual education and research according to the core activity of the department and the job description. In collaboration with the Head of Department, the applicant will be responsible for the continuing development of the research at the department in accordance with the strategies of the hospital and the region.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at the Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.

The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.

Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Urology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.
