Consultancy at the Gastrounit, Medical Division at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital combined with a clinical professorship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special focus on Translational and Clinical Research in IBD

A clinical position as consultant of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Gastrounit, Medical Division at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special focus on Translational and Clinical Research in IBD at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Gastrounit, Medical Division at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organisation

The Gastrounit has a Medical Division, a Surgical Division and a Division of Endoscopy.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department.

The Medical Division has a special focus on IBD and liver diseases.

Regarding IBD the focus area of the medical section are all aspects of inflammatory bowel diseases especially advanced treatment of IBD with a systematic approach, clinical and immunological research of IBD, development of new assessment modalities based on a very large group of outpatients affiliated to the department. The department has a strong a tradition of research and is considered as one of the leading centres in IBD research and treatment.

The Surgical Division has its focus on acute surgery, colorectal cancer and IBD.

The two divisions cooperate with regards to IBD patients.   

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant at the Gastrounit, Medical Division and clinical professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special focus on Translational and Clinical Research in IBD the Gastrounit at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special interest and documented experience in translational and clinical research within the field of inflammatory bowel diseases. We expect the applicant to be a key opinion leader within his/her field of expertise, with active national and international collaborations. The applicant must be well qualified with a strong research profile in the areas mentioned above. Commitment to collaborations, research, and the ability to lead a research group, including experience with attaining funding, supervision of PhD students and postdocs are required. Emphasis will be on the applicant ́s ability to document original scientific production at an international level within the area of IBD. 

Documented experience as Head of Research, head of research projects, head of teaching and other administrative jobs will be an advantage. The applicant is expected to be qualified in academic teaching as an associate professor or equivalent.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Gastrounit, Herlev-Gentofte Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the the Gastrounit, Herlev-Gentofte Hospital. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the of the Gastrounit, Herlev-Gentofte Hospital.
