Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) seeks a principal investigator (PI) / Research Leader to lead and develop the Department of Clinical Epidemiological Research

We currently have a leadership position available to join the research environment at SDCC – a world leading specialized diabetes research hospital. SDCC offers you a unique and unrivalled opportunity to lead and develop our diabetes epidemiology research program in close collaboration with our programs in Translational Type 2 diabetes, Translational Type 1 diabetes, Complications, Clinical Prevention, Systems Medicine, and Diabetes Technology. You will report to the Head of Research and join the SDCC Research management team together with the Research Leaders of the six other departments in Clinical Research.

 

About the Department

As a research leader, you will be responsible for leading and developing the Department of Clinical Epidemiological Research, whose main task is to translate epidemiological research into improved diabetes prevention and treatment. The research group currently has 15-20 employees including statisticians, senior researchers, postdocs, PhD and thesis students with primarily medical, public health science and mathematical-statistical educational backgrounds.

Clinical Epidemiological Research is focused on understanding why people develop diabetes, and why people with diabetes develop diabetes-related complications, by examining data from population studies, clinical trials, Danish and international health registries. The research group has a strong methodological focus with a strategy of continuously developing new statistical research methods to ensure optimal use of the constantly increasing amount and complexity of health data. At the same time the group contributes to the development of the national health registries.

Clinical Epidemiological Research is an internationally oriented group working with research groups on virtually all continents in the world.

 

The job

You are expected to contribute to creating synergy between the research groups in Clinical Research and between Clinical Research and the other units at SDCC by actively define and participate in joint projects and applications and provide epidemiological supervision across the organization.

  • You will through your own epidemiological research and through the leadership of the research group contribute to improving diabetes prevention and treatment in Denmark and abroad
  • You will lead the research group with the purpose to contribute to the overall vision of SDCC to conduct world-class research for the benefit of all individuals with diabetes and those at risk
  • You will develop a research program with a focus that includes not only the diabetes epidemiology group, but ideally aligns with the strategic development of the other Clinical Research departments at SDCC, as well as national and international collaborations

 

Qualifications

  • You have a relevant academic background within diabetes epidemiology and are internationally recognized for your scientific contributions
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of documented management experience
  • Your ambition, drive, endurance and high level of innovation are documented through your overall results and publications
  • You have solid experience with scientific collaborations through international networks
  • You have an in-dept knowledge of the Danish national health registers
  • You have an academic affiliation to a Danish University

 

Salary and conditions

Salary and terms of employment according to regional collective agreements.
