Consultancy in Nephrology combined with a clinical professorship in Internal Medicine: Nephrology
A permanent clinical position as consultant at the Department of Nephrology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Nephrology is highly specialized with clinical functions within all fields of acute and chronic nephrology. We are 26 doctors, among these 12 trained specialists of nephrology and two of them are clinical professors. The entire staff counts 270 heads, the majority of which are trained nurses. There are 41 hospital beds and an outpatient clinic with 16.000 visits per year. We take part in 100 kidney transplantations, treat 80 patients with peritoneal dialysis and perform 44 000 acute and chronic dialysis sessions per year. Chronic hemodialysis is performed at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet and in our dialysis satellite at Frederiksberg Hospital. Close clinical collaborators are the departments of urology, endocrinology, rheumatology, paediatrics and cardiology.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
We treat patients with all acute and chronic kidney diseases. We are in close collaboration with the urologists and take part in the diseased- and living donor transplantation programme, simultaneous kidney -pancreas transplantation as well as the other multiorgan transplantation programmes and perform about 100 kidney transplantations per year. We diagnose and treat acute and chronic glomerulonephritis with special focus on vasculitis and SLE. Patients with diabetes are treated in close collaboration with the diabetologists. We focus on chronic kidney disease progression, cardiovascular disease and diabetic kidney disease. In our dialysis units we perform chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and apheresis.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in Nephrology and clinical professor of Internal Medicine: Nephrology the Department of Nephrology wishes to continue and strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. We have a research lab for clinical and basic research in kidney disease
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Nephrology. The applicant must be experienced in basic nephrology and have some experience with kidney transplantation as well as being subspecialized in one or more of the above mentioned clinical function and focus areas of the department.
Leadership and cooperative skills are a prerequisite to this appointment.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of department of Nephrology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a fulltime secretary position from the department of Nephrology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Nephrology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
