Consultancy combined with a Clinical Professorship in Psychiatry and Clinical Pharmacology with special focus on Psychopharmacology in Multimorbidity

A clinical position as consultant in Psychiatry and Clinical Pharmacology in Region Zealand is open for appointment from as soon as possible. The position will be a split position consisting of a 60% position at the the Department of Psychiatry West, Psychiatric Hospital, Slagelse, and 40% position at Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Pharmacology with special focus on Psychopharmacology in Multimorbidity at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Psychiatry West, and Mental Health Services in Region Zealand and the Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Roskilde wish to strengthen the leadership in clinical psychopharmacological research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTS

Organisation

The Department of Psychiatry West in Slagelse is led by a chief psychiatrist and a chief nurse. The department has 6 bed units with a total of 78 beds, an emergency unit with 22 beds, and several outpatient clinics, community mental health services, outreach services, and specialized treatment units. It has comprehensive pre- and post-graduate teaching obligations concerning medical students, doctors, and other health professionals and faculty also has teaching and research obligations at the University of Copenhagen. The department is organized with a team management for each ward and outpatient department, comprising a lead nurse and a consultant.

Opened in 2013, Clinical Pharmacology Unit is obliged to support and promote rational pharmacology in Region Zealand. It is a university unit led by a chief physician and has teaching and research obligations at the University of Copenhagen. The Unit runs both a drug line and an ADR-management service. It provides professional support to the regional drug committee, and participates in pre- and post-graduate teaching of medical students, doctors, and other health professionals. The unit is engaged in regional and national boards and working parties, including the Danish Medicines Council.

Currently located in Roskilde, the unit will soon be relocated to the new hospital, which is under construction in the province city Køge. 

Research and teaching

Psychiatric research in Region Zealand is organized in a central Psychiatric Research Unit and local Research Units at most Departments. Research collaboration across departments is extensive, the researchers being united in fast growing research networks around three main themes: “Body & Mind”; Psychotherapy & Psychopathology” and “Implementation and User Participation”. Psychiatry West as partner in Steno Diabetes Center Zealand makes a strong research contribution to the “Body & Mind” network, and it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute substantially to the ongoing research and take leadership of this interdisciplinary research network. In total, Psychiatry Region Zealand employs more than 20 Phd-students, three post-docs, several senior researchers/associate professors, three UCPH professors and two SDU professors. Five Phd-students in Psychiatry West are engaged in the Body & Mind network. 

Research at Clinical Pharmacology Unit spans from basic science to clinical and epidemiological studies. Research focus on various aspects of rational drug use including dug utilisation, adverse drug events, medication errors, real life drug effectiveness, and pharmacogenomics.

With the new position as consultant in clinical pharmacology and clinical professor of psychiatry and clinical pharmacology with special focus on psychopharmacology in multimorbidity, Clinical Pharmacology Unit, the Department of Psychiatry West, and Mental Health Services in Region Zealand wish to strengthen the leadership in clinical psychopharmacological research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Pharmacology or Psychiatry and must have a documented, broad-ranging professional expertise in rational pharmacotherapy and psychopharmacology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for work in agreement with the Head of Psychiatry West, Slagelse and the Head of Clinical Pharmacology Unit. Both workplaces will provide an office and IT equipment. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position, 25% from each of the Departments. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of Psychiatry West, Slagelse and Head of Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Roskilde.
