A position as PhD (a PhD fellowship) in colorectal surgery is offered at Center for Surgical Science in a period of 3 years starting from 01.05.2023

CSS and research

CSS consists of a group of primarily medical doctors and medical students, molecular biologists, a pathologist, data scientists, bioinformaticians, data engineers, nurses, physiotherapists and dieticians. Our aim is to improve the treatment of patients with surgical diseases, minimize morbidity and optimize clinical outcomes. Through a cross-disciplinary research approach, we utilize the full spectrum of the available health information to tailor multi-modal interventions and characterize key issues for patients undergoing surgery in order to individualize pre-, intra- and postoperative treatment.

Project/job description

We seek a dedicated doctor with a special interest in colorectal cancer surgery and surgical pathophysiology for a PhD fellowship, with primary focus personalized medicine in colorectal cancer surgery including subjects such as iron deficiency in patients undergoing elective colorectal cancer surgery and AI based prediction models in colorectal cancer surgery.

In one PhD the research will be focused on a multicenter randomized trial investigating both the short- and long-term effects of preoperative administration of intravenous iron in patients with iron deficiency. The study involves both clinical-, physiological, immunological and patient-related outcome measures, giving a broad range of functions throughout the PhD. Another PhD study will focus on implementation of an AI-based prediction model in elective colorectal cancer surgery. You will conduct the trial within our dedicated team under supervision of senior PhD’s and postdocs in the unit and Professor Ismail Gögenur. Further, you will be able to conduct several other research projects during the PhD all focused on the subject in focus.

Qualifications

• You must hold a master’s degree in medicine
• Have special interest in performing clinical trials in the field of colorectal surgery
• You are dedicated, conscientious and thorough in your work
• Relevant clinical experience is required

You are required to possess good communication skills in Danish and English and to be a visible, involved participant in the unit’s activities, and willing to engage in collaborations across sectors.
