PhD Stipendium in pathology, North Denmark Regional Hospital

One PhD stipend is available at the Institute of Pathology, North Denmark Regional Hospital. The PhD stipend will be open for appointment from 1 May 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
A PhD project is planned in collaboration with prof. Oluf Dimitri Røe, Department of Oncology/Cancer Research Center, Aalborg University Hospital, Centre for Clinical Research, Aalborg University and Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The project includes assessment of novel biomarkers for mesothelioma through immunohistochemistry and analysis of expression of these biomarkers correlated to clinical data as survival, response to therapy etc.

The goal of this PhD project is to develop a scientific research protocol and investigate prognostic and predictive value of novel immunohistochemical candidate biomarkers, alone or combined. These biomarkers may help clinicians in diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.

PhD stipendiums are normally for a period of 3 years. However, the current position will be on 50:50 terms (50% of the total worktime as a PhD student and 50% as medical doctor) and therefore a maximum of 6 years.  However, given the project type, it is expected to be of 4 to 5 years duration. 

Prospective applicants for this PhD proposal should have the following qualifications.

• M.D. degree in medicine.
• Special interest in pathology.
• A creative mindset and curiosity to research and develop new solutions in an international environment with highly skilled colleagues.
• Good communication and excellent organizational skills.

It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Medicine, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order no. 1039 of August 27, 2013, on the PhD Program at the Universities.

According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of evaluation.  

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that after the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
