Consultancy in Clinical Pharmacology combined with a clinical professorship in Clinical Pharmacology with special focus on rational medication use in multimorbidity

A clinical position as consultant of Clinical Pharmacology at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg University Hospital is open for appointment as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Clinical Pharmacology with special focus on rational medication use in multimorbidity at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With the new position, the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organisation

The Department of Clinical Pharmacology is the largest in Denmark and the only clinical pharmacological department in the Capital Region of Denmark. The department serves the entire region and employs more than 50 doctors, pharmacists, nurses, etc. and approximately 10 PhD students.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology

The department's main task is counseling of the public, health care professionals and administrators in relation to rational pharmacotherapy. The tasks include participation in both regional and national council and committee work including work in relation to in the Danish Medicines Council. The department educates future specialists in clinical pharmacology as well as other health care professionals and has a strong research profile and affiliation to the clinical departments in the region. The department also conducts various task in relation to being a collaborative and driving part of the Danish Poison Information Centre (Giftlinjen), the Polypharmacy outpatient clinic (Polyfarmaciambulatoriet) and a pharmacologic laboratory (Lægemiddel- og Specialanalytisk Enhed).

The new consultant's main clinical responsibilities will be issues related to the areas of pharmacological treatment of patients with chronic diseases. The consultant should support the department in addressing the increasing demand from clinical department in relation to treating patient with multimorbidity. Clinical responsibilities also include work at the Polypharmacy outpatient clinic, the pharmacologic laboratory and the Danish Poison Information Centre.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Clinical Pharmacology and clinical professor of Clinical Pharmacology with special focus on rational drug therapy in multimorbidity, the Department of Clinical Pharmacology wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

The applicant must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Pharmacology with research management training and a strong clinical background. It is expected that the consultant has broad clinical pharmacological research competencies and a particular in complex polypharmacy and rational pharmacotherapy in chronic diseases. The consultant must have good collaborative and communicative skills.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50% of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50% of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital.
