Consultancy in intensive care medicine combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology with special focus on evidence-based medicine
A clinical position as consultant of intensive care medicine at the Department of Intensive Care, Centre for Organ- and Cancer Diseases at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on evidence-based medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Intensive Care wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Intensive Care at Rigshospitalet is led by a chief doctor and a chief nurse. The 24-bed department is divided into 4 teams. Each clinical team is led by a senior consultant and an assistant head nurse. The Research unit it is currently led by a clinical professor in Anaesthesia (10-year position).
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The Department of Intensive Care uses a multidisciplinary co-managed model of intensive care. Each person's care is under the direction of a trained intensivist from admission to discharge. The intensive care doctor collaborates with other specialists as needed, including among others nephrology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, surgery, transplant medicine, plastic and burn surgery, and infectious disease medicine.
Research and teaching
The Department of Intensive Care has been at the heart of the implementation of international clinical trials over the past 15 years. This position of strength must be maintained and developed so that especially the implementation part of evidence-based medicine is strengthened. The Research Unit at the department employs 2 project managers, 4 research nurses, currently 7 PhD students and 2 post docs.
The department has a range of teaching and tutoring activities including medical students, PhD students, fellows in intensive care medicine, and fellows in paediatric anaesthesiology.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Anaesthesiology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet. Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Intensive Care. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Department of Intensive Care. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Intensive Care, Rigshospitalet.
