Clinical position as junior consultant (afdelingslæge) or consultant (overlæge) combined with a clinical research associate professorship in Clinical Oncology

 

A clinical position as consultant or junior consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care at Zealand University Hospital in Næstved is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

 

The position as consultant or junior consultant is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical research associate professor in Clinical Oncology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

 

With this new position the Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. The position is mainly placed at our department in Næstved, but will include workdays at the department in Roskilde as well.

 

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the clinical research associate professorship and the clinical position.

 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Region Zealand has a population of approx. 830,000 citizens for whom the Department of Oncology provides care for patients with cancer.

 

The Department houses three professors and a clinical research unit. A Research Committee serves to manage research across the Department, and a panel of patients and caregivers are included in the process of formulation of research questions and research design. The Department of Oncology has an increasing number of PhD students as well as peer reviewed publications, and a high level of external research funding. Our focus areas includes: Supportive care, Electroporation, Inequality in cancer care, Liquid Biopsy.

 

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care in Region Zealand consist of the two merged departments of oncology in Næstved and Roskilde under Zealand University Hospital.

The department treats patients with lung cancer, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer and uterine and ovarian cancer. Apart from medical oncology the department in Næstved houses radiotherapy, palliative team and both oncological and palliative beds.

Research and teaching. With the new position as consultant or junior consultant of Clinical Oncology and clinical research associate professor of Clinical Oncology the Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

 

Qualifications

For the position as consultant: The consultant is expected to have experience within personalized medicine in the field of oncology, to have taken an interest in teaching and in development and integration of personalized medicine in clinical practice. The consultant must have more than 5 years clinical experience with clinical oncology at a specialist level and be able to take professional, organizational and operational-clinical responsibility at the department, including thoroughly professional skills and clinical rutine.

For the position as junior consultant: The consultant is expected to have experience within personalized medicine in the field of oncology, to have taken an interest in teaching and in development and integration of personalized medicine in clinical practice.

 

Applicants for a position as consultant or junior consultant must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Oncology and should state whether they wish to apply position as consultant or junior consultant.

 

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the clinical research associate professorship) and to the hospital (the clinical position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the clinical research associate professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultant or junior consultant at Zealand University Hospital.

 

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant or junior consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

 

As mentioned the position is geographically placed at our department in Næstved. As clinical research associate professor 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care.
