Consultancy or senior researcher position combined with a clinical professorship in Clinical Oncology with Special Focus on Cancer genetics and genomic structural variations
A clinical position as consultant or senior researcher (“group leader”) at the Finsen Laboratory, Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases, at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a permanent position as clinical professor with special focus on cancer genetics and genomic structural variations at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen. The professorship is initially for 5 years, but can be extended.
With this position the Finsen Laboratory, Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in cancer genetics research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Finsen Laboratory is a basic cancer research department at Rigshospitalet, Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases. The Finsen Laboratory is also affiliated with the University of Copenhagen as part of the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC). The Department houses six research groups and is situated at Copenhagen Biocenter close to Rigshospitalet and academic institutions.
Research functions and focus areas of the department
The Finsen Laboratory is a research department working broadly on various aspects of cancer biology. The Department covers aspects on how cancer initiates, how it is maintained, and how it metastasises. We have specific focus on the stem cell properties of cancer, the underlying genomics of tumours and on targeted drug-delivery.
Qualifications:
For applicants both with a background as medical doctor, as well as applicants with another academic background, documentation for competences in the field of laboratory based translational cancer research should be specified. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and expand the departments research into cancer genetics with emphasize on genomic structural variations. Hence, it is essential that the applicant has a proven track-record within these areas. The applicant is furthermore expected to establish a cutting-edge research program with clear translational potential and should also have demonstrated the ability to attract external funding to sustain such a program.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Director at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC). The remaining time will be allocated for other tasks at the Finsen Laboratory (e.g. research administration, personnel responsibility, grant writing and the establishment of a competitive research group) in agreement with the head of department. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50% of a fulltime secretary position from the Finsen Laboratory. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of Finsen Laboratory, Rigshospitalet.
