Consultancy in infectious diseases combined with a clinical professorship in infectious diseases with a special focus on vaccine-preventable diseases in adults

A clinical position as consultant of infectious diseases at the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and infectious diseases at Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of infectious diseases with a special focus on vaccine-preventable diseases in adults at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and infectious Disease Department, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Infectious Diseases has 80 beds and is treating patients with severe lung-and infectious diseases. The Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Infectious Diseases has a focus on sepsis as well as pneumonia and neuro-infections.

Many of our patients are immunosuppressed either induced by immunosuppressive treatment (anti-inflammatory treatment), disease (e.g haematological diseases) or by age. So, assuring that risk patients are systematically vaccinated for disease preventable diseases in order to reduce disease burden, is a top priority.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department…

In our dept. we have an outpatient Clinique with more than 13.ooo visits yearly, highly qualified infectious disease ward including an internal observations unit (6 beds) for the most critical ill patients.  

Our main focus is to ensure our patients the best experience during their hospital stay. Patients must be seen and heard and their expectations regarding treatment and medical examination should be taken into account in the clinical decisions.

Vaccination as a potent disease preventable tool has become very evident during COVID pandemic protecting the elderly population. We want to explore this opportunity regarding other disease preventable vaccinations with an individual focus covering the most eligible patients as cancer, medical immunosuppressed and elderly patients.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in infectious disease and clinical professor of infectious diseases with a special focus on vaccine-preventable diseases in adults the Department of lung-and infectious diseases wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal medicine: Infectious Diseases

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of lung-and infectious disease dept. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of lung and infectious disease dept. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of lung- and infectious disease dept, Copenhagen University Hospital – North Zealand.
