Clinical Professor of Infectious Diseases with Special Focus on Tick-borne Diseases

 

A clinical position as consultant at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Infectious Diseases with special focus on Tick-borne Diseases at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Infectious Diseases provides specialist management of infectious diseases covering a broad spectrum of acute and chronic conditions, imported infections, neuro-infections, and infections in the immune-compromised host. The department is comprised of two wards with a capacity of 28 beds and a growing outpatient department currently managing around 22.000 visits annually. A unit for tick borne infections was established within this setting a few years ago.

Clinical functions and focus areas:  The applicant will be part of our team of senior infectious disease specialists with special responsibility for patients referred under suspicion of tick-borne infections. This role includes all aspects of clinical management and diagnostic algorithms. The professional area is in several aspects overlapping other areas e.g., neuro-infections by non-tick-borne microorganisms and the applicant is expected to contribute to these fields as well.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Infectious Diseases and clinical professor of Infectious Diseases with special focus on Tick-borne Diseases at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen, the Department of Infectious Diseases wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. Tick borne infections are increasing and therefore high on our research agenda, with several open questions regarding epidemiology, better diagnostics, disease pathogenesis and sequelae. The applicant is expected to support and sponsor colleagues and young researchers in research projects locally and internationally.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Infectious Diseases.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Infectious Diseases. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Infectious Diseases. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet.
