Consultancy in Neurology combined with a clinical professorship in Neurology with special focus on Multiple Sclerosis Epidemiology

A clinical position as consultant of Neurology at the Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Neurology with special focus on Multiple Sclerosis Epidemiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet manages patients with all types of neurological diseases. The department is home to several excellent research groups that conduct clinical and translational research. We teach and train medical students and doctors at all levels, as well as other health care professionals, a task we value and prioritize.

The department is situated at both Blegdamsvej and Glostrup, and consists of 7 in-patient wards, 10 out-patient clinics, 2 national research centers and several larger research groups. Annually, we handle approx. 10,000 admissions and 100,000 outpatient patient contacts, half of which are tele- or video contacts. We offer highly specialized treatments within all neurological subspecialties. The department employs more than 130 medical doctors; 80 of these are consultants and 13 professors.

The Danish Multiple Sclerosis Center (DMSC) is the leading center for treatment and research in multiple sclerosis in Denmark. DMSC provides care for more than 3,500 MS patients, offering both basic and highly specialized therapy. More than 40 employees at the DMSC are engaged in research activities. The Danish Multiple Sclerosis Registry is part of DMSC and hosts nationwide prospective data collected on all Danish residents diagnosed with MS from 1948 to the present, supported by linkage to other nationwide registries.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The consultant to be employed will contribute to the clinical functions and tasks at DMSC, primarily in the outpatient clinic. The consultant will get the responsibility of clinical areas, depending on experience and interests. The consultant will also take part in organizational tasks regarding the clinic.

Supervision and clinical teaching of junior doctors is an integrated part of the work.

The position has no on-call obligation.

The consultant reports to the Head of Department and the head of the DMSC.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Neurology and clinical professor of Neurology with special focus on Multiple Sclerosis Epidemiology, the Department of Neurology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Neurology and must document extensive experience in Multiple Sclerosis Epidemiology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Neurology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Neurology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
