PhD Fellowship in Type 2 Diabetes with Focus on Adipose Tissue Heterogeneity at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen

A PhD fellowship is available at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), the University of Copenhagen, Denmark in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

The position is open for medical doctors with an interest in clinical research within the area of metabolic disease, type 2 diabetes and adipose tissue. The right candidate is expected to start on the 1st of May 2024.

The candidate will become part of the newly established Rydén & Mejhert team within the Translational Type 2 Diabetes Research Group at SDCC which focuses on the role of adipose tissue in metabolic disease. The team interacts closely with other researchers at SDCC including Drs. Charlotte Brøns, Allan Vaag and Tina Vilsbøll.

 

The project - Our team’s overarching aim is to explore the link between adipose tissue and metabolic diseases, notably type 2 diabetes.

For this position, we will together with the PhD candidate explore the interplay between specific antihyperglycemic medications and human adipose tissue cellularity. The project entails state-of-the-art clinical investigations and advanced approaches to phenotype the tissue biopsies.

 

The job - The PhD student will be employed and primarily based at the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, with intermittent stays at Karolinska Institutet.

The candidate will be responsible for establishing applications, protocols, recruitment as well as a series of clinical investigations. The candidate will together with the rest of the team take responsibility for the statistical analyses of the extensive clinical dataset generated, as well as for drafting and writing manuscripts aimed for publication in international scientific journals.

 

Terms - The PhD candidate must have an educational background within medicine (MD). Documented experience in clinical research is preferable. Employment will be in accordance with the relevant collective agreement within the Capital Region of Denmark.
