Job description:
The Epilepsy Clinic at Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark, currently treats around 3000 patients with seizures and epilepsy. The clinic’s primary task is to diagnose epilepsy in the North Denmark Region, which includes workup such as blood sampling, genetic testing, brain MRI and EEG. For epilepsy patients subsequently affiliated with our Clinic, the primary tasks are to stabilize the seizure conditions and minimize hospital admissions due to break-through seizures.
The current staff consists of neurologists, epilepsy nurses and secretary staff. In addition, junior neurologists, neurosurgeons, and psychiatrists receive their residency training in our seizure clinic. Research at the Epilepsy Clinic is carried out by the Translational Neurology Group in collaboration with several partners at Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital, as well as industrial and international collaborators. Emerging research areas include investigations of biomarkers in epilepsy patients which are complementing already ongoing electrophysiological laboratory research.
We are now launching an epilepsy biomarker study focusing on new and established blood biomarkers measured before and after initiating anti-seizure medications, and in relation to seizure themselves. The results of the measurements will be correlated to the patients’ seizure type, treatment, EEG and MRI. The project will involve generating a database of already diagnosed and treated patients in REDCap.
