Consultancy in Neurology or Clinical Neurophysiology combined with a clinical professorship in Neurology with special focus on Clinical Neurophysiology

A clinical position as consultant of Neurology or Clinical Neurophysiology shared between the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet, and Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Neurology with a special focus on Clinical Neurophysiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the departments

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital provides high level neurophysiological services in public-private partnership for patients and collaborators in Denmark. The Department has a special emphasis on EEG methodology including work-up for epilepsy surgery and in this respect collaborates closely with the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Rigshospitalet. The Department has a very strong international research profile.

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Rigshospitalet provides neurophysiological services for all public hospitals and the primary medical sector in the Capital region of Copenhagen (population 1,8 mil). The Department is located in 3 main locations, and smaller satellite units in the area, with a total staff of approximately 125 persons including 1 professor, 1 associate professor and additionally 19 specialist doctors. The Department is further organized in 3 sections: EEG, EMG/EP and sleep medicine. Research at an international level is performed in all areas of the Department. Main research areas are: nerve and muscle excitability, nerve regeneration, neurophysiology of aging, sleep disorders and EEG in epilepsy and coma. The Department wishes to further strengthen research at all levels including basic research areas such as pathophysiological mechanisms, signal analysis and input to software development performed by staff engineers.

 

Clinical functions and focus areas of the departments

The Departments provides a wide array of neurophysiological tests in all areas. We expect the applicant to be a high-level experienced clinician in the field of neurophysiology with an emphasis on EEG and epilepsy surgery work-up.  As a key member of the EEG section will be expected to set the standard for examinations performed in the Departments as well as provide a critical view on how best to optimize resources and output in all parts of the Department. We wish to further develop and implement neurophysiological methods strategically aimed at meeting present and future needs of clinicians and patients in this field.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Neurology or Clinical Neurophysiology and clinical professor of Neurology with special focus on Clinical Neurophysiology the Departments of Clinical Neurophysiology at Rigshospitalet and FiladelfiaEpilepsy Hospital wish to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching and to further profit from the synergistic potential of the collaboration between the two centres.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in neurology and/or clinical neurophysiology. Training and solid experience in Clinical Neurophysiology is required. The applicant will be required to be able to speak and write Danish fluently within one year of employment.

 

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet or Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Rigshospitalet, and Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position and full-time research assistant from the department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Rigshospitalet - Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of both clinical departments.
